A Sin of the Wealthy Mega Churches?

Tonight I was reading an article written by Dr. Steven Lambert:  He wrote this:

….while the world and worldly-minded Christians judge such rogue preachers on the premise of financial malfeasance, moral failures, and their sundry legal violations, God Himself is judging many prominent ministries against a much loftier standard, having to do with attitudes of ascendancy and elitism manifest in their blatant lack of compassion and benevolence toward the thousands of other, lesser-known ministries in this country whose missions and ministry endeavors are no less worthy of financial support than their own.

Few of the “mega-ministries” that began emerging in the 1950s and ’60s have shown significant desire to “share the wealth” with other worthy ministries. When they have contributed to other ministry organizations, often a major part of their motivation is to curry some sort of favor and/or reciprocation from the receiving minister and/or his/her ministry organization. What makes this the height of hypocrisy is that these are the same well-known and well-healed ministers who constantly, and in some cases obsessively, demand sacrificial benevolence of their supporters toward their own coffers.

Do you believe this is true...that the Church in the New Testament, shows by example one part of the Church body helping another part which is in need? I think it does. And if the ultimate goal of the whole Church body is to spread the Gospel, make disciples, and to care for those within each part of the body in need (the widows, fatherless, etc) then these mega-wealthy ministries, by using their funds to just continue to build bigger and ‘better’ buildings, instead of helping smaller, poorer Churches/ministries are sinning in this matter also. I know most of them claim to send to missions/missionary groups outside of the USA, but what about those small struggling Churches and ministries inside the States?

I had never considered this as something God would frown upon or judge them for, had you?

********

And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar. Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul. Acts 11:28-30

*note in the above that the Spirit did not signify that those in need come to where the abundance was, but signified the offering/abundance be sent to the other house churches.

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.1John 3

For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.2Cor.9:1-5

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. 1 Cor.16:1-3

  1. PJ,
you should know that “Dr.” Steven Lambert is a dirty lying fraud who’s entire existance has been based on manipulating people into giving him money. For the “Real Truth” about Steven Lambert including his true identity and an expose on some of his verified misdeeds go to http://www.stevenlambertministires.com

    What he Claims.
On his multiple web sites and publications he claims to have several titles and certifications but provides no proof for any of them and he has refused to answer when he is asked about the sources of these titles and achievements.

These are some of the titles and certification he claims to have:
    + Ordained Minister
He provides no proof and lists no credentials. He is not registered in Florida

    + Certified Adjunct Professor
Relationship terminated by Vision International University for theft

+ Board Certified Doctoral Diplomat – He Provides no proof and lists no credentials

    + Christian Counselor
Offers no proof or credentials, divorces wife of 27 years and counsels his victims to divorce

    + Singer
go to his web site slm.org you can hear his smooth voice. It’ll make your skin crawl.

    + Musician
again listen to his cheesy web site slm.org to experience his “talent”

+ TV and Radio Producer and TV and Radio Host
he buys 15 minutes ad time on a local radio station for his daily”show”

    + Expert on Christian Cults
Oh Yeah he’s an expert practitioner!

+ Expert on Authoritarian Abuse – he sure is!

+ PROPHET that SPEAKS IN JUDGMENT FOR GOD – ABSOLUTLY NOT!

  2. Thanks for the heads up–

Because i knew nothing about him or his ministry is why i didn’t post the entire article from his blog.

The point he made concerning wealthy ministries may be true [i believe it is] but that one point alone shouldn’t be taken as an approval or endorsement [on my part] upon the the man or his ministry.

Thank you again The Truth…i believe i’ll use wisdom now, after receiving your warning, and remove the link to his blog.

God bless you for taking the time to point this out…

  3. PJ,
thank you for posting my response to this thread. “Dr. Lambert” has been a nightmare to our family and to many others that we know and have have contacted us through the website. He laid low for a while when the police were involved and he was exposed however, he’s created several websites and continues to solicit finds for his various schemes.

It’s outrageous to read that now he’s complaining about the financial excesses of the mega-churches which most reasonable people, especially believers, agree is a troubling trend that must be addressed. This comes from the the same person that has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from trusting families for use in his so called “ministries” which he then uses for his personal gain. This is the same person that was recently actually was trying to raise money to buy an airplane again for his “ministries”. This is the same person that wrote about “Authoritarian Abuse” from churches and them practices the exact tactics he critisizes.

The only good news is that he has left quite a trail of legal documents including evictions, foreclosures, lawsuits, divorce documents and debts everywhere he goes.

  4. Well we live and learn my friend–What you did was exactly what the body of Christ is suppose to do: help each other, by not only encouraging but by pointing out where the wolves are hiding.

    I appreciated it!

I’m really sorry to read some of your family has been burned by this man, its horrible to know someone posing as a minister of the Gospel would take advantage of a Believers innocence. We see it all the time now, don’t we?

Like i’ve told my adult children, follow Christ only, never a man or ministry. There are just too many wolves out there today to do anything but.

    God bless
    pj

  5. Several of these mega Churches preach the “prosperity gospel”. These lying pastors get tithes and offerings from innocents and go for expensive vacation trips at least 3 times a year. When they make positive confessions with their mouths they get multi million dollar homes, luxury cars, private jets, $23,000 commodes and many more. But when their church members make positive confessions it they do not get to buy private Jet like their mammon loving Pastors.

Can we even think about Apostle Paul owning a private luxury ship to go on missionary journeys, Peter and John owning the largest fish market in Galilee, Jesus becoming the richest carpenter in Nazareth.

Jesus did not say to the young man who asked him “What must I do to inherit the eternal life” to sell all his possessions and “sow” into His ministry! He asked him to give it to the poor.

Early Christian church never practiced tithing. It became a practice centuries later. Both resolutions to enforce tithing on Christians failed in the council of Mason and in the council of Trent. Unfortunately these leaders in the 20th century charistmatic movement started practicing heavy shepherding and saw the huge money flow. They did not know what to do and how to justify the huge sums poured into their minstries. So they decided to institutionalized the doctrine of tithing by taking some Old Testament passages out of context.

  6. I don’t know Mr. Lambert or his history. I read the comments The Truth, who I also dont know and found them full of unfounded accusations, false hoods and personal opinions. First of all, ministers who are ordained in Florida do not have to register with the state. Anyone can study to be a certified christian counselor, he probably is. Divorce does not disqualify a person from serving God. We must be careful avoid endorsing persons we are not familiar with and also be careful about judging them without all the facts.
