GOP Should Set Up “Shadow Government”

2008 December 2

Some of the things these politicians say are amazing! What’s up with Jeb Bush:

News Link

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush…recommends that Republicans create a “shadow government” to engage Democrats on important issues as the incoming Obama administration seeks to enact its agenda…The party should establish a loyal opposition and “organize ourselves in the form of a shadow government” that would address key issues, providing the public with “a loftier debate about policy”

A “Shadow Government?” Sounds like insurrection, sabotage, treason, mutiny!

A shadow government is a “government-in-waiting” that remains in waiting with the intention of taking control of a government in response to some event.

Conspiracy theorists define shadow government as a secret government within the government. This secret government is the “real” government that controls the known government’s basic course. link

We have that system here – I thought it was normal in politics for the opposition to have their own portfolios as well.

How it works is we have the main government, and they’d have (for instance) a Foreign Policy minister, an Education minister, and a Minister of Health. The opposition party (who aren’t in power) have their own Foreign Policy minister, their own Education minister, and their own Minister of Health.

So the ones in power put together their ideas for what they think should happen, and the ones in opposition publicise their ideas on what they think should happen – then they nut it out in parliament over a few months, then it goes through a number of committees etc where they keep arguing about it… and eventually the original idea either becomes a law (usually radically changed by this time) or the idea doesn’t.

I never thought anything odd of this system before (but then I’ve grown up with it) – how I see it as it works down here, is at least the government can’t just go ahead and do stuff without the rest of the country becoming aware of it, and the opposition have studied the issues involved enough to either back the government’s ideas or to throw water on it.

With that though, I’ve never heard the term ’shadow government’ applied to this system. I hope I’ve explained it well enough so you all understand what I’ve meant!

it’s no big deal, this is the way UK politics has been run for years and is actually very healthy for democracy as the cabinet members (those in office) are often held to account by their shadow counterparts.

Oh, that’s a good one. Like they don’t already have a shadow government. These people are a joke! Liars and deceivers….hope the money and power is worth it.

I got such a laugh over Jeb Bush’s statement about a shadow government last night… :-)

it made me wonder if he really knew what the term meant…in todays world in which conspiracy abounds, i don’t think i would have used that term. ahaha…

    PJ,

a shadow government, “hmmmm”? The Bush dynasty is alive!

I was at the Democratic Convention during the Al Gore and George W. elections and heard Jesse Jackson say something that might be finally appropriate to say hereon in light of this timely article. I am not endorsing Jesse Jackson, but what he said sure brought down the house that night inside Staples Center.

He said this to enthusiastic crowds: “stay out of the bushes”!

Our only hope in this world of governments comes from these comforting words of a True Prophet:::>

Isa 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

Seems like old Jeb is looking to be a part of the “shadow government”

CNN Jeb Bush considering Senate run

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is considering a bid for the United Sates Senate, Republican strategist Alex Castellanos told CNN Tuesday.

Republicans are urging Bush, the president’s younger brother, to strongly consider making a bid for the seat currently held by outgoing Republican Sen. Mel Martinez. The first term senator announced Tuesday he would not run for reelection, setting off what’s sure to be one of the most hotly-contested Senate battles in 2010.

Bush, who served as Florida governor from 1999 until 2007 and enjoyed high approval ratings, will take the next month to consider getting into the race, Castellanos said on CNN’s The Situation Room. Castellanos is a CNN contributor. Bush also told the Politico he is “considering” getting into the race.
