Christians Bolster Jews as Settlement Freeze Ends: Israel – An Evangelical Idol

In his latest post Rick Frueh reminds us of how many evangelicals have fallen into idolatry concerning Israel.

This news story is a case in point:

Hundreds of Christians from a dozen nations joined together with 3,000 Israelis on Sunday evening in the small Samarian Jewish community of Revava to mark the end of the self-imposed Jewish building freeze in the so-called West Bank. The Christians were in Israel to participate in the annual International Christian Zionist Center (ICZC) Feast of Tabernacles celebration. The theme of this year’s feast was Genesis 22:17, where God promises Abraham that his “seed shall possess the gates of their enemies.” ICZC Director Jan Willem van der Hoeven thought it fitting that his group demonstrate their belief in that passage by physically standing with the people of Israel as they reversed that fateful decision to suspend Jewish building in Judea and Samaria .. Israel – An Evangelical Idol

I believe that God has a plan for the Jewish people in the future. All those who believe in Jesus at the end will be saved, and it appears as though Scripture gives us a hint at such a coming event. And that event just may be a fulfillment of a divine covenant. Until then, the secular nation called “Israel” should be left to God and not become a rallying point for Christians.

We live in a polarized world that views most things in a political and financial light. And here in America the evangelical church has constructed a theology that compromises the gospel of Jesus Christ and is a significant detour from what was taught and believed by the early church. But specifically I want to address the issue of Israel, the secular nation. If you have been a part of an evangelical church for any length of time you probably have heard how believers should support and defend Israel because that is what God desires from us. And because the Scriptures clearly teach that God has an eschatological plan for the Jews, the church has parlayed that into a present day doctrine. But just because the Scriptures give a future glimpse into God’s redemption for the living Jews in the end as they believe in Jesus, that does not mean we should get involved, much less take sides, concerning the support of Israeli causes. Their cause is not ours.

Examine and digest the words of the Apostle Paul and you will find he viewed “Israel” as a people and not as a nation to defend. It was always in the context of ethnicity and Paul’s heart was their redemption, not protecting their national borders. His words toward Israel were never geographic and he never stepped into the remedy for Roman occupation. Paul would never have formed any alliance with unbelieving Jews, and in fact, they hated him.

And since we are against interfaith dinners and alliances, why is this any different? Unsaved Jews in this age are no more lost than the Arabs that hate them. The final covenant eschatology concerning Israel is in God’s hands, but Paul would never have thought that his fellow countrymen had any wisdom since they have not the Spirit. When we rally with such people we inadvertently give them the idea that they are alright with God, or at least we dull the edge of evangelism (interfaith dinners).

An American Jew named Caroline Glick who writes for the Jerusalem Post and is the darling of many evangelical Christians in America wrote these words:

“I have more in common with conservative Christians than I do with Jews as long as they don’t force their religion down my throat.”

And when she says she has more in common with American conservative Christians she reveals how the cross in our lives and lips is no longer a stumbling block to anyone. Unbelieving Jews have no problem with our silent theology as long as we cooperate with them on issues of Israel’s national problems and make the cross a secondary issue. In Paul’s day unbelieving Jews sought to kill him; in our day they love us as long as the cross doesn’t come between us. The cross has become just a tenant of our theology which takes a back seat when nationalism, America’s or Israel’s, is at stake. We have become a saltless and dim bevy of activity that strives for earthly causes while claiming a commission from heaven. Or as R. G. Lee once said,

“A shallow steam of piety that runs a fresher course on Sundays.”

Our championing of the national interests of Israel has weakened, and in some ways, entombed the gospel under a grave of politics, nationalism, and the golden calf called “conservative”. The cross no longer divides anyone since it is not an issue on which discussion ever takes place. As long as someone believes in the morals, national interests, and foreign policy as do we the cross can take a back seat. Let us not be distracted from the divine and the eternal by being entangled with the noble issues that are temporal and passing. There is only one gospel, and there is only one calling. While we join hands with unbelievers of any stripe we do a disservice to them. Anyone who has read my thoughts knows I exhort us to love and show compassion to the vilest and most demonstrative sinners among us, but alliances with unbelievers is a detriment to the cause of Jesus Christ.

‘Pulpit Freedom Sunday’: Across the U.S. Pastors Say They Will Defy Law and Talk Politics

Nearly 100 pastors across the country planned to take part in Pulpit Freedom Sunday, an in-your-face challenge Sunday to what the government says can and cannot be said in church.

The growing trend is a challenge to the IRS from the churches, and may jeopardize their all-important tax-exempt status. But some pastors and church leaders said they are willing to defy the law to defend their right to freedom of speech.

Pulpit Freedom Sunday is an initiative organized by the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian nonprofit organization, which according to its website seeks to “defend the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation.”

But not all pastors and churches agree that Pulpit Freedom Sunday will do anything to help the cause.

“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. Why would you want to anger the IRS?” Rev. Kenneth Whalum Jr. of Tennessee’s mid-South region told ABC-24.

David Shelley, pastor of Smith Springs Baptist in Tennessee, is defying the clause for the second time this year by throwing his support behind several Republican candidates.

“My support for these candidates has nothing to do with their party or their skin color or any other non-biblically related issue,” he said.

Shelley, like many other pastors, is hoping that the IRS does come after him, according to The Tennessean newspaper.

“I don’t run their lives, I don’t tell them what to do, but I’m going to speak into their lives, and if I’m not speaking into their lives on the issues that have made the nation great, and the issues that God cares about, then who is?” he said.

(1 Peter 2:13-16) “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. [Act] as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but [use it] as bondslaves of God.”

Why Do Glenn Beck’s “Fans” Hate Him So Much?

My O’ My….what an outstanding article this is!

Why Do Glenn Beck’s “Fans” Hate Him So Much? By Rich Vermillion

quote…

An intriguing phenomena seems to be at work here. There are people who actually claim or allude that they are Christians — who also say that they “support” Glenn Beck and favor him and his agenda — and YET seem to be quite unconcerned about whether the man goes to Hell or not….

I hope you will take the time to visit the blog of Rich Vermillion and read through this important message

This phenomena, as Rich correctly refers to it, is the same phenomena which has been pointed out on this blog many times concerning  Christian Zionism; particularly, in regards to ministries like CUFA, led by John Hagee. What is it….?

The twisted belief that Christian love is standing with, defending, giving heed and support to people who are lost and hell-bound; and not showing the least concern to how desperately they need to hear the real gospel.

Rich in his article refers to it as “Hate in Disguise”.

As far as Glenn Beck is concerned I also believe its a case of politics over biblical theology. Some days I honestly think many of the Christians who follow after and give heed to Beck would align with satan himself if it suited their political views.

Before Jesus returns, I actually look for it to occur…

Spot-light seeker Randall Terry; at it again….

If you decide to comment in defense of this certified nut or his actions, be prepared to answer the question, ‘what does this have to do with ending abortions’? – The answer is obvious: nothing. Nor will this latest “Terry stunt” do anything to bring glory to Christ, spread the gospel, or present a true picture of Christ based biblical Christianity, to the lost.

People like Randall Terry and his followers hide behind the word Christianity, but are in fact instruments used by satan.

quote..

On October 6 and 7, Christians (both Catholic and Protestant) will gather in New York, DC, and various cities, holding large posters printed with the words of the Quran, and the words of Muhammad from the Hadith and the Sunnah. The participants will either 1) tear the passages, 2) crumple them up and throw them in a garbage bag, or 3) just laugh at them…

Christians to Gather in Front of Cordoba House Proposed Site, Wash DC, and other Cities to Tear Up Passages of Quran and the Hadith

“Let not your heart be troubled….”

Praise God!

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” John 14

“…In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16

Ted Haggard: Atlanta Pastor Deserves Fair Hearing

While I agree with Haggard that nothing has yet been proven,  one way or the other,  what  I don’t agree with is the underlying “suggestion” in his comments which supports the apostate Church’s belief that NOTHING can ever disqualify you from ministry.

He doesn’t say it, but the implication is there; plus Haggard’s own road back to (once again) pastoring a Church, supports that erroneous belief.  Does God forgive the truly repentant? Yes!  But being restored into right-standing with God does not mean we are qualified to return to an office or position once held, in the Church.

After reading this I sat here for awhile just thinking about Paul and the disciples. Wondering if they too would have believed they could practice sexual immorality, be caught, repent, and still be leaders in the early Church.

Anyway…

Disgraced pastor Ted Haggard cautions that no one should rush to judge Atlanta megachurch Bishop Eddie Long, who is accused of coercing three young men into sex. “Nobody’s guilty until the court says he’s guilty,” Haggard, the former head of a 14,000-member congregation in Colorado, told AOL News in a phone interview Wednesday.

Three young men from Long’s 25,000-member New Birth Missionary Baptist Church filed lawsuits this week claiming he exploited his position and used cash, cars and expensive trips to pressure them into sexual relationships. “Let me be clear. The charges against me and New Birth are false,” Long said in a statement read by his attorney, Craig Gillen.

Long canceled an appearance on the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” earlier today, as well as a scheduled news conference. He will speak to his congregation Sunday about the claims, Gillen said.

Haggard, who was a superstar among the Christian right until a gay sex scandal forced him to resign from his Colorado church, told AOL News that Long deserves a fair hearing. If the accusations are false, Haggard said, Long will survive the ordeal. “The bishop is surrounded by people that will counsel him well,” he said.

While stressing that nothing had been proved against Long, a married father of four whom Haggard said he has met once or twice, Haggard said it’s important to remember that all Christians struggle with sin. “It’s fundamental to all Christian beliefs that Christians are simultaneously saints and sinners,” he said. “We’re saints in the eyes of God, but we all know we’re sinners, which is why we value redemption.”

“Et tu” Eddie? – Pastor Eddie Long Accused of Sexual Abuse With “Spiritual Sons”

Been watching this story develop, and still have no opinion on its truthfulness. Isn’t that sad?  We’ve watched so much of this type of behavior exposed within the Church in recent years that its difficult “not” to automatically believe these accusations against Eddie Long also. My prayer is asking God to reveal the truth of the matter….

A clip of Long’s heretical preaching.. (sigh…)

This and That….

I wanted to say how sorry I am for no new posts and for not responding to any recent comments over the last few days. I’ve been pretty sick. In fact the little guy in the picture looks good compared to what I see in the mirror. lol

Some of those who read here know about the number of autoimmune disorders which plague my body. What I haven’t mentioned is the increased frequency in which flair ups are occurring; Or the length of time they last. There has definitely been a change in the past year. BUT I flat-out refuse to give in to this. While there are days at a time when I may be down, I’m never out! Until God says ‘you’re done’ I’m staying in the saddle for the duration.

Thanks for understanding and continuing to check in…

Special thanks to Rich Vermillion for commenting under the post which linked to his excellent message, How God Uses Heretics. It was a great encouragement to me personally.

How God Uses Heretics

Excellent message! One that reminds us of the truth; “God has His sovereign purposes regarding heretics and their heresies”

quote…

I was getting a bit upset recently regarding the explosion of heretics in recent weeks. For example, there was Mormon Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor Rally” in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. back this past August, 2010. Beck clearly stated that this event was “not political” and he even proposed that it was a “new Great Awakening” (in a weird Mormon sense only, of course). He even introduced his new “Black Robe Brigade” of apostate preachers (mixed also with a few Jewish and Muslim clergy). It would been far more honest to have entitled it, “The Parade of Heretics Rally” given the bizarre doctrines that were promulgated….

A couple of friends and I had an email discussion about some of these things over a few days, and we were all praying. Quite frankly, like any true Christian, believers should be, we were quite concerned. We already had Joel Osteen and other heretics out there pimping their trash to gullible people, but now a Mormon has become a new “spiritual leader” in America? Needless to say, we have been very vexed about these things within our own hearts. However, a wonderful thing happened…

“Government should monitor what is said in mosques”

Can you possibly imagine where this kind of thinking will lead one day, concerning the true Church in America? Its something to think about….

From radio interview September 15th with Cal Thomas who is advocating for the government to monitor what is said in mosques;

Thomas: I want them to be monitored I want there to be listening devices in very single one of them.

Colmes: Can you imagine saying that about any other religion?

Thomas: No I can’t, but no other religion…is talking about the imposing the equivalent of Sharia law…

Colmes: So you want the government to monitor what happens in mosques.

Thomas: I sure do…

Colmes: How will that ever pass a constitutional test?

Thomas: Well, I don’t know; we’ll have to see; depends who’s on the court.

“….the time comes, that whoever kills you will think that he does God service” John 16:2

Sinners, especially hypocrites, often cloak crimes under the pretence of great zeal for religion. Men often suppose, or profess to suppose, that they are rendering God service when they persecute others; and, under the pretence of great zeal for truth and purity, evince all possible bigotry, pride, malice, and uncharitableness. The people of God have suffered most from those who have been conscientious persecutors; and some of the most malignant foes which true Christians have ever had have been in the church.. (Barnes: Notes on the Bible)

Its amazing to watch the groundwork for real Christian persecution being laid today in America by many of the very people who publicly claim to be Christians.  Surely they cannot know what they are doing.

The Times Are Out of Joint

/></p> We are getting into the condition into which Germany fell not long ago. To this day, when talking with a German who is about joining our church, I usually find that he has lived in a country town. The devout German villager still attends public worship, but in the large towns a practical atheism is supreme.

Why is this? The ministers have done it. They preached the people out of their faith in the Scriptures; they taught them to be doubters.

The most mischievous servant of Satan that I know of is the minister of the gospel, who not only doubts the truth in his own soul, but propagates doubt in the minds of others by his criticisms, innuendos, and triflings with words.

Some ministers believe nothing except that nothing can be believed. Such a man’s conscience is withered. In some modern ministers, the faculty wherewith to believe is extinct; they have played with words till they cannot be true if they try.

Against this evil I have protested with my whole soul. People say, “Why did you not speak against these things twenty-five years ago?” I answer, “These evils were scarcely apparent then.” Things are not now as in our early ministry. There has been a sudden growth of the toadstools of error. I never heard of Universalism then, nor of post-mortem salvation, nor of probation in the next state. Until very lately, I have not heard of ministers holding up the blood of Jesus to scorn. I will not, however, repeat the sad facts which have of late come to my knowledge, and pierced my heart.

The times are out of joint. The world may well be careless, for the Church in many places is full of unbelief. I trust the present hurricane of evil may soon pass over; but anyone who has his wits about him will sorrowfully admit that the good ship of the Church is now tossed about with contrary winds, and needs that her Lord should come, and say to the winds and the waves, “Peace, be still.” So far, I have borne before you “the burden of the Lord.

The Spirit is still saying….

Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3: 7-12

Another Nut Jumps into the Fray…

The problem with one publicity seeking nut gaining the media’s (and the worlds) attention, is there is always more nuts waiting in the wings seeking their own 15 minutes of fame. Or maybe the explanation is as simple as, “monkey see, monkey do”.

quote…

Bob Old of Springfield, TN told the The Tennessean that Rev. Terry Jones’ hateful scheme to burn Qurans has inspired him to the same, because in his view, there should be no Muslims in America:

The longtime Baptist minister says the Rev. Terry Jones of the Dove World Center Outreach in Gainesville, Fla., is doing the right thing by burning the Quran. So he’s going to do likewise. Old plans to set fire to a Quran on Saturday at his home and then post a video of the burning book online. And if he had his way, there would be no Muslims in America. “If they want to have their religion, they can have it somewhere else,” said Old, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Joelton and Academy Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin, which merged with another church. He no longer has a congregation and instead runs an evangelical ministry called Disciples of Christ.

Full story: Inspired By Florida Hate Pastor, Tennessee Minister Also Plans To Burn Qurans On 9/11

One more quote (this is too “good” not to include)

Jones’ desire to burn Qurans sparked …reaction from the notorious Westboro Baptist Church, infamous for protesting against Jews and gay people, even at funerals for fallen American soldiers. Church leader Shirley Phelps Roper was outraged by Jones’ plan, not because of its hateful insensitivity, but because her bigoted church had the idea first.

I can think of nothing to add….

O’ The Irony…

This calls for an appearance of the Irony Meter.

Newt Gingrich confirmed as a speaker for the Family Research Council’s “Values Voter Summit”

The Family Research Council, billed as defenders of “faith, family and freedom”, must not have a problem with Gingrich’s own contemptible value judgments, including numerous extra-marital affairs, and pressuring a divorce from his first wife while she lay stricken with cancer in a hospital bed.

Don’t you just love this hypocritical reply from Gingrich to his then wife concerning his affair,

quote…

He asked her (his second wife Marianne) to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused. He’d just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where he’d given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values. The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, “How do you give that speech and do what you’re doing?” “It doesn’t matter what I do,” he answered. “People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.“

Like I said, irony. Off the charts irony….

QURAN-BURNING PASTOR FAVORS FIRST AMMENDMENT OVER GREATEST COMMANDMENT

A special report posted at Apprising Ministries can be read here.

quote…

Some may view Pastor Jones as a patriot. Using the Biblical standard, he is no pastor. His message and actions are unbiblical. Using the First Ammendment as protection for his unbiblical actions is defrauding the The Scriptures. A wolf in sheeps’ clothing.

Congratulations Pastor Jones, the real fire you are starting is the fire the will burn Christians at the stake once again.

Pastor Behind ‘Burn A Quran Day’ Responds To General Petraeus

Been following this story the last few weeks. What a totally disgusting AND unChrist-like mess this Pastor has instigated. Do these nuts really think actions, such as publicly burning the quran is presenting a correct, biblical example of Christ, the gospel, and Christianity? They ‘know not what spirit they are following’. Below is the latest…

As ThinkProgress has reported, the Dove World Church based out of Gainesville, FL, is organizing an “International Burn a Quran Day” on September 11. Gen. David Petraeus warned yesterday that the hate campaign “could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.” Gen. William Caldwell — the commander of the NATO training mission in Afghanistan — echoed Petraeus’ admonition on CNN yesterday afternoon:

What I will tell you is that their very actions will in fact jeopardize the safety of the young men and women who are serving in uniform over here…..

Already, the planned Quran burning has incited large protests in Afghanistan. “Several hundred Afghans rallied outside a Kabul mosque, burning American flags and an effigy of Dove World’s pastor and chanting ‘death to America.’ Members of the crowd briefly pelted a passing U.S. military convoy with stones, but were ordered to stop by rally organizers.” On Saturday, 3,000 Muslims marched through Indonesia’s capital and five other cities to protest in front of the U.S. embassy, carrying signs saying, “Jihad to protect Koran” and “You burn Qu’ran you burn in hell.”

WHAT IS HEAVEN?

Beloved, what is heaven? What is the final glory of the saints? Is it not the best place, the richest inheritance provided by the Father for the people ransomed and brought home to glory by His Son?

Heaven is a place designated by God, chosen and consecrated by Him for the Church redeemed by the precious blood of His dear Son. And when we enter there, we shall enter as children welcomed to a Father’s home! It will be the best that God can give us! He will bestow upon us, who deserved the least, the best in His power to bestow—the best Savior, the best robe, the best banquet, the best inheritance.

In the new heaven and the new earth there will be nothing more to taint, nothing more to sully, nothing more to embitter, nothing more to wound—no serpent to beguile, no spoiler to destroy, no sin to defile, no adversity to sadden, no misunderstanding to alienate, no tongue to defame, no suspicion to chill, no tear, nor sickness, nor death, nor parting. It will be the best part of the pure, radiant, glorified universe which God will assign to His people! Saints of the Most High!

Let the prospect cheer, sanctify, and comfort you! It will not be long that you are to labor and battle here on earth. It is but a little while that you are to occupy your present sphere of conflict, of trial, and of sorrow. The time is coming—oh, how fast it speeds! Soon the Lord Jesus Christ will bring you home to heaven!

Mormonism, “The Fourth Abrahamic Faith”?

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Eph.6

quote…

A few weeks before organizing a massive rally on the Mall that had the feel of a religious revival, Glenn Beck sought the blessing of some of the country’s most prominent conservative Christian leaders. The Fox talk show host wanted their support as he shifted from political commentary to a more spiritual message, he told the group of about 20. This is where God is leading me, Beck declared, according to Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, who was there, along with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson.

Land said most in the group found Beck’s faith genuine and heartfelt, although not everyone agreed to embrace him publicly. “We walked back to the hotel after and said: ‘That was extraordinary,’ ” Land said of his conversation with Dobson after the dinner in Manhattan. “I’ve never heard a cultural figure of that popularity talking that overtly about his faith. He sounded like Billy Graham.”

Dr. Richard Land, who has served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission since 1988 and in 2005 was featured in Time Magazine as one of The Twenty-five Most Influential Evangelicals in America, said during an interview,

“I do not think Mormonism is an orthodox Christian faith, with a small O. I think perhaps the most charitable way for an evangelical Christian to look at Mormonism is to look at Mormonism as the fourth Abrahamic faith.”
