I’m not interested in Newt Gingrich’s numerous affairs/infidelities or the ugly facts surrounding his divorces, but for goodness sakes, either ‘own it’…all of it, or get out of the public spotlight.
Excuses, like he gave during the interview with CBN’s David Brody, frankly does one of two things: either it shows his own stupidity or it shows his belief in the stupidity of the public, especially as he now bills himself as a staunch defender of morality and family values,
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich gave an interview to the Christian Broadcasting Network to speak about his past indiscretions, the coming presidential race and what he calls the threat to “Judeo-Christian society.”
“There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate,” (link)
Today on “Fox News Sunday”,
asked about his adulterous past, Newt Gingrich said it was not hypocritical for him to impeach Bill Clinton while he cheated on his own wife because he never lied under oath….
The all-but-official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination granted that his own extramarital affairs will be an issue in the coming campaign, but he sounded hopeful that voters will, if they don’t forgive or forget, at least look the other way…
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace noted that Gingrich cheated on both his first and second wives. “I want to talk about your personal life,” Wallace said, broaching the issue in the larger context of whether Gingrich is disciplined enough to run for president. “I hate doing it, but you know it’s going to be an issue in the campaign and so I’m going to go there.” Wallace played the clip of Gingrich suggesting in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network earlier this month that his affair was “partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country.” “Speaker, you’ve had more than a decade to come up with an answer and, in all honesty, there are a lot of people who thought that answer was kind of lame,” Wallace told Gingrich…. Newt is currently busy explaining why he was ragging on the president for not engaging in Libya only to flip around and attack him for it after he finally did. And, of course, Newt, being the honest guy he is, explained that after the fact “his analysis of the situation ‘changed’”. Well … you wouldn’t expect a political animal like Newt to admit that politics were involved would you? This guy’s whole life is an ethical nightmare. Personally, I can’t see how died in the wool Republicans could even support him. I will be amazed if his 2012 campaign goes anywhere. The ONLY Republican that I can see being president at this point is Bobby Jindal and as far as I know, he is not running. As much as I disagree with Bobby politically, I have huge respect for him as a person, but people like Newt give me the creeps.
George, he gives me the creeps too.
Its not what he did in the past, for i know God can forgive, but the manner in which he acts/speaks today. He claims to have repented of his past actions but the “fruit of his lips” do not back up his claims of a new-life now lived for God.
Those who have been forgiven much, love much–and it brings with it a type of deep humility which is discernible. This humility is absent in Gingrich. Instead, i see haughtiness and pride.
I see Gingrich appeared at John Hagee’s church yesterday,
Are evangelicals so blind that they cannot see what this really is….another politician only seeking Christian support by railing on morality and “Christian” values, while his personal ‘fruit’ presents neither?
Sadly Gingrich isn’t the only one. And just like in 08, im afraid many Christians will again buy into this kind of masquerade.
Funny that this type of hypocrisy doesn’t make it to your pages here.
Its very simple as to why the article you linked to and others in a similar vein are not highlighted on this blog, while others, such as the one above are;
I hate Christianity being used or Christians being manipulated to garner political support or to further a politician’s personal agenda. It is an affront to my faith, and to the faith of millions of other followers of Christ. It also presents to the world a convoluted, extremely twisted picture of true Christianity.
Impostors, wolves, and hypocrites are tools satan has mastered the art of using very aptly.
There you are. Simple answer.
Kalli, All media outlets have a bias. Do you EVER see Fox News publish articles critical of Conservatives? Do you EVER see Huffington publish articles critical of Liberals? I *know* they don’t because I read both of them on a regular basis. I can tell you that I have also witnessed extremely unfair “hit pieces” in both publications. They *advocate* a particular point of view. Is that somehow wrong in your opinion (aside from the hit pieces of course)? Or are you making this post in order to somehow justify Newt’s patently immoral behavior? Hello?
Personally, I am *very* turned off by BOTH immoral liberals AND immoral conservatives and their are *plenty* of examples of both. In this blog the focus is usually though not always on immoral conservatives. But if you follow PJ regularly, you will know that she is not afraid to point out immorality in liberals as well from time to time. It is just that the point is NOT to try to justify one sides sins by the sins of the other.
ADDITIONALLY, *most* of the time liberals do not try to use Jesus as a cover to do their dirty work. The same cannot be said of conservatives. And that is what galls people like PJ and myself the most. It is one thing to be an immoral jerk. It is another thing to be an immoral jerk and try to sanctify it with Jesus talk and morality talk.
Exactly.
Well said George….thanks
