Update from Fresh Fire Ministries concerning Todd Bentley

This arrived in my inbox tonight: its also posted at the Ministry website. I’m going to post a portion of it, and its still fairly long, even with the omission of a few less pertinent to the topic issues. After reading it, I’d be interested in hearing what you think concerning Todd’s return to ministry.

Over the last few months the topic has been brought up by me and a few of you, as to ‘if’ he would return and when.  Some, like myself, thought it might be quickly–after reading this I’m not so sure. Those within Peter Wagner’s group, the NAR, got burned a few years ago with the Paul Cain fiasco, I’m just wondering if they’re willing to take another gamble, this time with Todd: especially in light of his continuing affair and his failure to accept accountability, which this report makes pretty clear is fact.

For the record let me say I don’t buy fatigue as being the issue for Todd’s fall. While I have no doubt that there was fatigue on the part of the workers, after all it did go on nightly for 5 months, there have been God-sent true revivals in the past which lasted much longer…some, even for years. If God is truly in a move He will provide the strength to those involved to carry on…Amen? Because of this belief, among many others including the extra-biblical doctrines which were taught, preached, and in many instances passed on to others through unholy impartations, those involved like Wagner and Company, outright lies and deception, etc; I cannot accept this Lakeland outpouring as a true God-sent outpouring that ‘just went bad’. Though I’m well aware that there have been true moves of God in the past which, after a period of time, ended up more flesh then Spirit led, (The Welsh Revival is a case in point) I never saw this event in that category. I only wanted to reiterate that because of certain portions of this message.

November 28, 2008

Please allow us to begin by sincerely apologizing for the long silence between our first two letters and this one. We will do our best to help you understand why it has taken us so long to respond to your many legitimate requests for information. Please also know that we write this letter as an explanation of our silence and not a defense of it.

We have received letters, emails and phone calls from many of you during the last three months, expressing sympathy and support as well as frustration and disappointment. We ourselves have been on an emotional rollercoaster for some time now and have found that looking to the Lord for His new mercies every morning enables us to make it through the day.

Moving on, let us first say that we know, without a shadow of doubt, that Lakeland was and is an authentic move of God. Having known Todd well for many years, both his amazing strengths and his areas of weakness, we can say without reservation that the move of God in Lakeland, which began at Ignited Church, was genuine. We have never seen, in the history of this ministry, a greater quantity and quality of the miraculous demonstration of God’s healing power. As the Lord began to pour out His glory in Ignited Church and in the many venues that followed, Todd’s spirit was as pure as it has ever been and he was intensely hungry for more of God’s presence. He would spend hours soaking each day before the evening meeting, and once the worship had begun, Todd would become lost in the presence of God. The manifestation of amazingly accurate words of knowledge and astounding miracles flowed effortlessly night after night.

As the Outpouring continued, the Board of Directors and other leaders in Lakeland suggested that Todd take a few days off each week to rest and refresh. We learned from experience, however, and the post-Lakeland counsel of Christian leaders, that the anointing can be addictive. Significant personal issues in Todd’s life and make-up, as well as, flaws in the functioning structure of our leadership resulted in an impossible pace to maintain… seven nights a week for more than 15 weeks on end. We fully accept the responsibility as a Board of Directors for this lapse in judgment; we should have required that not just Todd and the team, but the entire Outpouring rest a minimum of one day a week. God himself rested after six days work as a pattern for His creation, and if the yoke of the Lord is easy and His burden is light, then He has no need to exhaust His people in a fresh encounter with Him.

As fatigue began to set in, significant personal issues in Todd and in his relationship with Shonnah were exacerbated. This, together with his increased familiarity with a female staff member created more tension in the Bentleys’ relationship. As the pressure of leading the revival continued, media attention increased resulting in less and less personal time. With the development of more friction in his marriage relationship, Todd began to make irrational decisions. Alcohol, movies and leisure time spent with a few of the younger, more impressionable members of his staff and road-crew began to replace the hours of soaking in the presence of God in which Todd had engaged during the early days of the Outpouring. Finally, Todd began to burn out, and things came to a head in his relationship with Shonnah. He was unwilling to put distance between himself and the female staff member and ultimately told Shonnah he wanted a separation.

The fact that the revival was in Florida, three thousand miles from our home office in Abbotsford, BC Canada, meant that the entire administration for the revival was provided by a rotating stream of church leaders and Board members who would assist behind the scenes and on the platform for a few weeks at a time and then return to Canada…

Trying to keep up with the logistics of administrating the revival, including the massive challenge of moving from venue to venue until we finally arrived in the tent along with the media circus that ensued shortly afterwards, meant that communication was greatly inhibited between the leaders involved. Many early signs that something was drastically wrong were overlooked. By the time we became fully aware and/or were willing to admit how dysfunctional things had become behind the scenes, the damage had already been done.

As to our long silence in writing to you, please let us explain.

We have been in much contact with Rick Joyner, Bill Johnson, John Arnott and other members of a team focused on restoring Todd, seeking to do all within our power to encourage him to embrace a process of counseling and genuine accountability. In deference to these leaders we have refrained from communicating at all until we could be assured that we were all on the same page. At the same time, senior members of the leadership team here at Fresh Fire as well as members of the Board of Directors have been stretched to the breaking point in attempting to deal with all of the attention created not just by the revelations of Todd’s marriage problems and personal issues, but also by the five months of revival preceding their disclosure. Since then, many false accusations and rumors surrounding both Todd and the Lakeland Outpouring have attempted to use Todd’s failures as a springboard to question the legitimacy of the revival. Consequently, key leaders have had to step back and rest in order not to burn-out themselves. This, coupled with the busy schedules of the restoration team, all of whom travel internationally, has made getting everyone on the same page difficult.

We so appreciate all those who have stepped in to assist the FFM Board in a process of restoration for Todd, but what we have come to realize is that ultimately, the buck stops with the FFM Board of Directors. No one knows Todd better, or has more access to all the facts from both sides than we do.

We struggled for a while with the question of how to satisfy two important obligations – that of honoring Todd, while believing for his restoration and at the same time, our obligation to be completely honest and open with you as our partners. Through much prayer and with the Lord’s help, we hope to satisfy both those obligations with this letter.

There is a difference between covering Todd and covering for him.

We refuse to expose explicit details of his failings over the last few months, but neither will we pretend there haven’t been any. “Covering” is a biblical term as in “love covers over a multitude of sins” or as in the case when Noah’s two sons draped him in a blanket when he unwittingly discovered what happens when you drink too much fermented grape juice. “Cover for” is a contemporary idiom meaning to lie or misrepresent the truth in order to enable another to get away with or to continue to be involved in illicit behavior. We have been slow in responding up until now, because we wanted to bring you a positive report, full of hope and the promise of restoration. All of that is still entirely possible and we pray to that end, however, further silence on our part would be misrepresenting the truth by allowing you to believe that what we said in our first two statements (which were true to the best of our knowledge at the time of their writing) is still the case.

Unfortunately that is not so.

Here are the facts:

  • Todd has yet to enter into a clear system of accountability with the leaders he identified that would be involved in such a process. Todd has visited Rick Joyner in Fort Mills, South Carolina, and indicated early on in September that he would be moving there soon to become a part of the community there and to receive counseling from Rick Joyner, Jack Deere, Bill Johnson and others that Rick might feel to bring alongside. Todd is in regular contact with Rick Joyner and has agreed together with Rick that he will move to Fort Mills during the first few months of 2009.

  • Having spoken with Todd in recent days, he is resolute in his intentions to divorce Shonnah, and in his mind, the restoration he is seeking is one which would not include reconciliation with his wife. Todd admits to being 100% responsible for the divorce.

  • It also needs to be clarified that Shonnah has in no way initiated this divorce and has no present intention to do so at any time in the future. She is understandably hurt by Todd’s infidelity, but is not asking or pressing for a divorce. The legal separation from Shonnah was initiated completely by Todd and he has not seen her or the children since the last week in July. To our knowledge, Todd’s relationship with the female staff-member, who was a former intern and also, at his initiative, a live-in nanny in his house for over a year, is still ongoing. We believe that there are currently no biblical grounds for Todd to leave his wife and children. While it has been maintained that no physical contact happened between Todd and the former female intern until after he filed for legal separation from Shonnah, in the Boards’ eyes, the nature of the present relationship between Todd and his former staff member is that of adultery.

Having said all that, our sincere desire is to see Todd first restored to Shonnah and the children, though at present this seems unlikely. We are optimistic that should Todd keep his word and move to Morning Star, Rick and his team are well equipped to be the Lord’s instruments in a process toward restoration. With genuine accountability, inner healing, counseling and deliverance we are confident that it is entirely possible for Todd to come through and gain victory over a number of significant personal issues with which he is struggling.

It is our deep desire that our brother Todd should be restored, and we are still hopeful that this will be achieved. Please let us make it clear, that although what Todd has done is inexcusable, it is not unforgiveable. We do not judge him unworthy of a second, third or even fourth chance, and we hope that you don’t either.

Todd Bentley has demonstrated himself unfaithful to his wife by entering into a relationship with another woman while still legally married. He has consumed more alcohol on a few occasions than is prudent or becoming a Christian leader (or any believer for that matter). His sins have been sins of the flesh and we do not defend them.

He has, however, also seen over 1 million people make decisions for Christ in the 10 years of his ministry. He has been instrumental in seeing the Lord heal tens of thousands of people (if not more) of all manner of sickness and disease through the personal laying on of his hands and who knows how many others vicariously through television and the internet, or though the prayers of those who received the healing anointing through Todd’s ministry. He has been used by the Lord to give countless accurate prophetic words and words of knowledge to thousands of people around the globe, and his testimony and passion for God just since April 2 in Lakeland, Florida has touched literally millions through the internet and television.

How many believers have become almost vicious in their attack against Todd, demonizing not only him but his ministry and everything he has ever done? What sort of spirit do you think is behind this? And how many around the world are sick and dying and unsaved because of what we, the global body of believers, have not done? Because we have not been obedient to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out devils (Matt. 10:8). Nothing is defined by what it is not, but rather by what it is; not by what it does not do, but by what it does do.

What Todd has done should not only be defined by his present failure. He has raised the bar on what is possible. He has broken a barrier of sorts for all of us and made a pathway into new possibilities. This is what you partnered with – not a man but a transferable anointing and an ability to reach into a combined realm of prophetic revelation and signs and wonders manifestation!

At the same time we openly admit that what Todd has done at the height of his supernatural breakthrough has resulted in a tragic breakdown in the natural causing great pain to many, but to none so deeply as to his wife and children.

Maintaining gentleness of heart towards Todd means that we do not write him off or wish any manner of evil upon him. We need to continue to pray for him and to keep a door of relationship open to him. We are willing to assist in the process of his restoration, messy though it may be. Neither does a gentle heart towards Todd mean condoning what he has done nor enabling him to live in sin by either our support or our silence.

So please pray for Todd and also for Shonnah and their family. Pray with fervency that the Lord would do a mighty miracle for the number one purpose of bringing vindication to His Name, but also that we might see our brother restored. We cannot control a person’s choices, nor have we any desire to do so. What we can control is our response to their choices and see the Lord take what the enemy means for evil and work it together for good.

We at Fresh Fire Ministries are presently in a season of waiting on God. We are in the process of re-defining our government structure with assistance from leaders in Bethel (the church pastored by Bill Johnson in Redding, California) and others affiliated with Morning Star—Rick Joyner’s ministry in South Carolina. In August, Todd verbally stepped down from the FFM Canadian Board of Directors and has recently given written notice of his resignation.

With Todd no longer at the helm we are looking to identify vision-casters from within and to refocus the ministry’s endeavors in keeping with the original mandate of Fresh Fire Ministries. In the coming weeks we will provide you, our partners with a detailed update of our vision and emerging leadership structure.

  1. “In the midst of “great revival, the enemy found his way into our camp.”…The NAR, concerninig Lakeland and Bentley…

The Truth: “In the midst of great demonic deception, the Lord entered and scattered the enemies camp.”

Todd Bentlet never fell, he never stood to fall. He was unsaved and operated under the power of the wicked one, as do his so called overseers.

This entire statement shifts the focus on Todd’s “indescretions” from the facts . There was no revival, but a manifestation of unclean spirits , and Todd was but the lightening rod. Most of the NAR crowd got on stage, and publically coronated Todd, if not participated in the impartations of dark anointings.

By agrandizing Bentley as a Prophetic Icon , a prince in Israel, who sinned, and at the same time mold the historical facts about Lakeland as a holy biblical move of God soured by his immorality, they cast off their own affiliation, responsibility, and culpability. They were, and ARE the same. Ministers of the DEVIL.

Nice try…but none of these animals will ever get into the true gates of Zion.

“BUT OUTSIDE THE GATES ARE DOGS, AND SORCERERS, AND THE SEXUALLY IMMORAL, AND MURDERERS, AND IDOLATERS, AND WHOSOEVER LOVES AND PRACTICES A LIE.”

That pretty well covers Lakeland, Bentley and the NAR.

  2. I may be reading it a bit differently than you PJ.

The Canadian board is passing blame, to the busyness of Lakeland, to poor communication (that takes more than one party) to critics.
They may not have any choices but to wash their hands, after all he left them just as much as he left his family.

What difference does it make if NAR distances themselves from Bentley?
He’s told his Cdn team to take a hike – and it looks like they still want some of the action, so the US Alliance partners can make their moves with Bentley and they’ll take what is left over.
This reads like the Cdn board divorce from him.

The Bentley marriage divorce will be through mid- 2009, the US followers are ripe for the picking and while this board is spiritually deceived, and willing to believe their own hype, they also seem to be pragmatic.

So they called behavior and choices what it is – adultery. That’s setting up the US crew for a Jimmy Swaggert moment is all.
That gives Bentley and his US buddies room to make their move.
So Bentley hasn’t done what they want. No surprise there.

Seems more a distancing statement, freeing the rest of their Alliance to do what they want.

We’ll see, I think Bentley is far too much of a money maker, and now that Patricia King is in the US, God TV is running short of money – we’ll see.

Seems like a passing the baton on to new handlers.

  3. If Todd has no interest in reconciling his marriage, then why waste the time to “restore” him?

He has disgraced the pulpit with his words and his actions and has perverted Scripture and testimonies of healings severely.

No doubt, they (we) should all be praying for Todd to repent, end his relationship with this woman, seek forgiveness from his wife and rebuild their marriage. Forget going back out on the road to preach again. He needs to repent for his sin against God for his adultery.

If anything, FFM should concentrate on providing more support for Shonnah and ministering to her and the kids. Todd seems to not be interested in getting help anyway and there isn’t much more a team of people can do, if he is unwilling to get help.

I still have an issue with this “soaking in the presence of God” thing that just disturbs me to no end.

How can the FFM Board still believe that this was a move of God with all of the extra-biblical teaching, kicking people, BAM in the name of BAM stuff?

If one were to take the time, I’m sure they would find that he told more stories about other people, than he did in talking about the Savior.

The whole circus event in Lakeland, Florida was atrocious!

The FFM Board needs to spend some time locked away in the prayer closet and commit to a serious fast. Maybe then they will hear the unmistakable voice of God and see the Holy Spirit at work in their own lives.

  4. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck and lives like a duck, It is a duck.

Our commitment to a belief comes with fruit.
How Lakeland’s fruit bore the test is , the outcome.

    The duck is lost.

    God Bless.

  5. It is my understanding that Todd is going to go to Morningstar and live and be restored by Rick Joyner plus some other men. Read the following quote taken from the letter:

“While it has been maintained that no physical contact happened between Todd and the former female intern until after he filed for legal separation from Shonnah, in the Boards’ eyes, the nature of the present relationship.” between Todd and his former staff member is that of adultery.”

Does that mean that Rick will allow Todd to bring his new girlfriend to Morningstar and live with her? How can this be?

So, it is okay for a Christian to have sex if he is separated (not divorced) from his wife! I wonder where that is found in the Bible?

  6. I should have added that I don’t believe if someone divorces from something other than what the bible says is ok, should ever remarry.

  7. Gosh, there are so many issues here but all I can say is, “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Matt. 7:18-20

  8. I wonder why anyone would believe in any kind of restoration when:

Bob Jones( many sexual sins) and his sidekick
Larry Randolph (who had a girlfriend long before a divorce)
    Paul Cain (we all know)
Todd (who already had adultery issues long before Lakeland)
Elijah List who support with lots of money and hosts all of these people in many conferences (many Elijah List staff are in full feldged adultery and it is a known and it is no secret)

All of these above have had ongoing unconfessed unrepentant never an apology —affairs.

No one blinks an eye to any of it including the churches involved. It is looked upon as if you are legalistic if you disagree.
So with that said which has been said for months why would we expect anything different out of these self appointed false prophets?

But truly I wonder why would we even expect the same standards when they are flase prophets and heretics with a false gospel? There is NO truth in these camps so I wonder why we are ever surprised with their actions and blatent sins.

It is a sad day when eveil is called good.

  9. PJ,

As I have not read the article, [I might], I did read these words of yours and wanted to crack into them a bit:::>

“….While I have no doubt that there was fatigue on the part of the workers, after all it did go on nightly for 5 months, there have been God-sent true revivals in the past which lasted much longer…some, even for years. If God is truly in a move He will provide the strength to those involved to carry on…Amen?….”

I want to make a distinction that I haven’t as yet seen made in here. If it has been made in here already, please accept my apologies now for going over the distinction again.

If what I am about to write isn’t clear, I have noticed some editorial privileges have been excercised before with regard to my submissions to make them such, for which I am grateful, as the editing is so way out of my paid grade, I couldn’t afford it if I hired someone to edit my written thoughts anyway! 🙂

The distinction then is this, a simple one, I hope, to be vived and revived again and sometimes, as we read in Galatians 4:19, revive again and again and again might be necessary?

Let me ask you, what is the Apostle to do, throw the baby out with the bath water?

What does the Scripture teach us about being “made alive” or “vived” in Christ?

In light of the noted quote quoted above PJ, I believe we should make it clear, so that it is clear, as we go along now for the rest of our natural days supernaturally connected and conjoined and reanimated to Christ by the Hand of God.

When we are “seeking” God for a revival, are we not admitting something is no longer as it was before?

    What do I mean here?

Well, I need to point to a couple of Greek words to emphasize what my intent is in making it clear, these differences between being vived and revived.

Let me state clearly, I was “vived” back during the early 1970’s revival goings on and have been so “vived” now these many years. In fact, I am so “high” or excited to be alive in Christ now, even more so than before, I cannot express the unspeakable Joy of it all sometimes. And now, more so, while I have ventured in here to experience Christ together with such discerning people as most of you are in here.

There are two Greek words that come to mind that I want to point too.

The first Greek word is this one and it is used only “twice” in Scripture:

    συζωοποιέω
    suzōopoieō
    sood-zo-op-oy-eh’-o
From G4862 and G2227; to reanimate conjointly with (figuratively): – quicken together with.

You can see the subject matter Paul is developing where he uses this Greek word at Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 5. It is also used at Colossians 2:13, a similar subject, if not the exact same subject?

Now, when you consider the definition here of this Greek word, suzōopoieō, you should realize there is conveyed something about us “being” conjoined to or reanimated with “someone”. Who is that someone? “Jesus Christ” is that someone. It is God who “conjoined us to Christ”. Now we are “one” with Him.

Now, contrast that or better, understand the difference between that idea and this one, using another “similar” Greek word, but this time, this Greek word conveys something about Jesus Christ, as He is Eternally, as He is Spiritually”, as in the same, yesterday, today and forever.

Here is the other Greek word I want to make note of now to distinguish between being vived by God and then “if necessary”, to be revived again:::>

    ζωοποιέω
    zōopoieō
    dzo-op-oy-eh’-o
From the same as G2226 and G4160; to (re-) vitalize (literally or figuratively): – make alive, give life, quicken.

This word is used 15 times in 11 verses in the New Testament.

I will cite one verse and make some concluding remarks.

Joh 5:21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.

As we read here, and by the way, all my quotes of Scripture are in the ESV translation so the English words may be different depending on the Translation you use, both Our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have the ability to “give life” or zoopoieo, to mankind according to “Their Will”.

Each one “gives life” according to His “will”.

So, when I say that I have been vitalized, or vived and do not need to “experience” a revival, that is what I mean.

This does not mean that I do not grow weary or worry at times. Wouldn’t that be great if none of us were humans, but superhumans like Jesus? Ah, oops, He grew weary at times Himself, just as we see when He came to the well and was asking for a drink from the woman at the well! He wept. He slept. He sang hymns. He grew weary at times. Seeing He is “Life”, His Spirit was fresh and dynamic all the time. It was His humanity, like ours, that grew tired, hungry, thirsty and needed some time off, not His Spirit.

So, this whole notion of praying for a revival, one must admit that there would have to be a vival for one to need a revival and so the words from 2 Chronicles 7:13-16 might be what we should be looking for in revival gatherings by the drawing out by the Holy Ghost those in need of repentance?

As for Todd Bentley, well, I do pray that God would touch his soul and give him the same Life He has given to us!

Here might be what would happen to NAR and the other fraudulent groups if that happened:::>

Luk 11:17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls.
Luk 11:18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
Luk 11:19 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
Luk 11:20 But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

  10. Heather,

Gosh, there are so many issues here but all I can say is, “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” Matt. 7:18-20

    Exactly.

There are countless issues, not only with this latest from FF Ministries, but about the entire Lakeland event, the NAR’s involvement, and Todd period. Someone could write a book.

The whole Lakeland ‘outpouring’ was never sent by God.

The fact that none of the follow up messages mailed out from those involved with the NAR (Dutch Sheets, Joyner, and both Peter and Doris Wagner) ever admitted this, but continue to this day to claim it was a ‘great move of God’ which went bad because of Todd’s ‘exhaustion’ or the ludicrous claim [above] now from FF of him becoming ‘addicted to the anointing’ shows me all these people are blind as bats.

Someone please…show me where in the bible one can become addicted to the anointing of the Holy Spirit!

Don’t bother looking because there is nothing in the bible which even hints at this…

These people don’t have a clue about the true anointing or the Blessed Holy Spirit who bestows it. They see ‘it’ as some type of universal ‘power’ which one ‘gets’, and once having ‘it’ can subsequently lose their faculties and sanity because their addicted. What nonsense…

Sounds like a reaction to a demonic unholy anointing to me.

Does that mean that Rick will allow Todd to bring his new girlfriend to Morningstar and live with her? How can this be?

    Inlovewithjesus,

I wondered the same thing when reading this last night. I also have wondered just how old this other woman is…After reading she had been hired to take care of the children, it makes me wonder if she’s not really young.

If anything, FFM should concentrate on providing more support for Shonnah and ministering to her and the kids. Todd seems to not be interested in getting help anyway and there isn’t much more a team of people can do, if he is unwilling to get help.

Kurt i agree. His family should be the focus.

From reading the past letters sent out by the NAR, the impression i got was that Todd had already began a ‘restoration’ process….this latest letter claims he hasn’t but will begin in January. Why not before and why beginning in January?

Also, how has Todd been living in the last months since leaving Lakeland? Who’s footing his bills and paying for his upkeep while he is living in adultery. The impression i got was Todd was far from being wealthy. Perhaps Joyner and the NAR have been helping him financially, giving him until January to dump his girlfriend and place himself totally under their authority “or else” … just a thought

There are so many issues just in this letter alone, it gives me a headache.

Will he return to ministering? I’ll say yes, if he decides he wants to.

That group of false prophets and pretend apostles will see to it, if they have their way.

If he does, it may be with a new wife…

What is scary is knowing there would be thousands who would continue to follow him and his teachings.

    This was interesting:

We at Fresh Fire Ministries are presently in a season of waiting on God. We are in the process of re-defining our government structure with assistance from leaders in Bethel (the church pastored by Bill Johnson in Redding, California) and others affiliated with Morning Star—Rick Joyner’s ministry in South Carolina.

Sounds to me like this ministry is under the authority of the NAR …

  11. It still sounds like they want everyone to believe that Lakeland was a legitimate move of God. I am sure they want Todd to come back, submit to a time of restoration, and then on with the show. But it sounds like Todd wants his cake and to eat it too. And that’s not good for business. I don’t think they can control him. And I really don’t think they know what to do. I think they are only sorry to see their cash cow slipping through their greedy little fingers.
It will be interesting to see if Bentley moves to South Carolina in 2009, and if his ‘nanny’ tags along.

  12. I wish these people would quit calling Holy Spirit “It” that just shows me what kind of fruit they have, among many other things. The rotten kind.

So how will morningstar deal with his drinking? Was this a one time thing or what? Drinking, girlfriend. Gee Whiz!

  13. Todd had stepped down several months ago and has still not submitted to spiritual discipline? He’s still seeing his lover and yet Fresh Fire Ministries still takes glory in his accomplishments? Those people are all spiritually sick. Will his discipline be as short lived as that of Ted Haggard’s?

  14. My heart is grieved as I read this…only God can restore Todd…and that He will, I’m certain, if Todd himself truly seeks repentance. Unfortunately, as with many, the pleasures of sin “justify” the unholy behaviors…and while in sin, the believer seeks to “reconcile” his sin and fails miserably…then once “brought to sense” the believer stands in account to His God…and often takes even more time to “invalidate” the sin that was once so enticing….the very sin that destroyed what God built. The choice of sin over Truth then becomes reality. Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life…no man comes to the Father but by Me. God needs Jesus…God the Father…and the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is clear. Drinking, partying, and jumping in bed with the nanny is just as much of a choice as turning to God in repentance and seeking forgiveness. Todd’s choice appears to be clear as well. He has chosen sin over Truth. May God have mercy on Him…that is my prayer. He may call himself a believer, however, I question which Jesus he believes. It doesn’t appear to be the Jesus of the Bible. Based on what Lakeland produced, I questioned then the impartations, manifestations, signs, wonders, etc. Yes, God is merciful and forgiving. BUT GOD will not be mocked…and at some point, it will all turn to ashes. Jesus exhorted us to make a righteous judgment …the standard being the Word of God…all stands or falls against His Word. He is Truth.

  15. Freudian slip there…I meant to say Todd needs Jesus…God the Father…and the Holy Spirit. … sorry ’bout that…

  16. The issue I have is with the so-called “restoration”???

Restored to what??? The same flawed character he was at the time all the false prophets came together, laid hands on him and declared what a wonderful man of God he was???

Todd doesn’t need “restoration” by man; he needs “reformation” that comes from God alone.

  17. There are two deceits all of us have need of a Savior to deliver us from. If they are not delivered, as you point out rightly, the only restoration is back to those two deceits.

The deceits, well, the deceitfulness of sin and the deceitfulness of riches. It seems these two deceits are identical twins or two peas in a pod or birds of a feather flocking to one another!

The only solution for this pollution is not dilution, it’s absolution that follows death to self and thereafter Life in Him!

There are no exceptions to it!

I am weak and I easily trend towards weakness and dilution!

Mat 13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.

    and

Heb 3:12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
Heb 3:13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Heb 3:14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.

  18. Maybe this was part of the problem: “… He would spend hours soaking each day before the evening meeting … ” Funny, but I don’t remember the verse that says, “Soak to show yourself approved…”

  19. mrsbucket said, ” I wish these people would quit calling Holy Spirit “It” that just shows me what kind of fruit they have, among many other things. The rotten kind.”

FYI, if you look up the greek root words for the Spirit, you will find masculine, feminine and neuter genders. You can look up NT verses at this site: http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinear/Greek_Index.htm. You will see gray writing under the greek word and above the english like this: “n_gen sig n” and the last letter could be m, f or n for masculine, feminine or neuter, respectively.

And in the KJV, a couple verses actually refer to Holy Spirit as “it”. See John 15:26; Romans 8:16, 26 and 1 Peter 1:11.

  20. Thanks for the correction Heather, I will stop bristling when I hear someone say that! 🙂

  21. I couldn’t help but wonder if Todd was drinking during the hours he was supposedly ‘soaking’. Sometimes he did such outrageous things on the stage, and that would explain a lot. Who knows, maybe he suffers form stage fright and self medicates. Still, I’m uncomfortable with the whole soaking thing. And the idea of being addicted to the annointing is absurd.

  22. Hi again Heather,

I appreciate the greek translation, I thought this link would provide more background on where I am coming from. I get aggravated by the Bentley crowd when they try to refer to Holy Spirt as not being a person, but instead like some sort of Holy Santa Claus that can manifest gold teeth, tingly feelings and the like.

I do not want to Hijack the post on this topic but I thought this link was a good explanation.

  23. Here is a clip from the very ministry that is going to “restore” good old Todd.

  24. I know Todd personally and we experienced his ministry in India. When we heard he was in Lakeland my husband and I as Pastors, made a special trip from India to Lakeland and when we returned a revival started in the churches of Goa. We experienced a fire that was undeniably the Holy Spirit. We were not aware of any impossible or unscriptural beliefs that Todd held, because we believe God is the God of the Impossible and faith keeps us believing in spite of circumstances. We were very sad to receive news of his marriage failure and we have grieved for Shonha and the children and are in continuous prayer along with our churches in India for his complete recovery. We cannot bear to give the devil one of God’s anointed servants. It is sad to hear your comments and your anger at Todd rather than take your anger out on the demonic forces that are presently ruling in his life. All of us can fall, and it takes God’s grace to remain under His covering. We are saved by grace alone, and not by any works, and I pray that rather than be judges of Todd, that you would become intercessors and prayer warriors for the wounded saints. We were disgusted with the judgemental spirits that many of the christians walk with. God is the God of mercy and His mercy seat is still available for Todd, as it was for others who have fallen from grace.

    Julie,

I cannot speak for anyone else but myself, but i have no anger at Todd only disgust. And to be frank my disgust goes far beyond Todd himself to those who have supposedly taught and mentored him since shortly after he says he came to Jesus.

No biblical responsibility or accountability was apparently instilled in him by his mentors…and worse yet, he was taught so much extra-biblical stuff by these same people that i truly believe Todd lives a lie.

His teachings [and claims] of trips to heaven, Angels, etc etc etc the list is endless, were and are so unbiblical that it would take much more then this reply to get into. Listen, i believe in the supernatural manifestations of God–that they still occur today. That includes all the gifts of the Spirit being in operation.

BUT Todd’s claims and teachings go WAY beyond that.

He is a false teacher and prophet.

I won’t get into more–and there is much more, because i don’t believe it will change your mind at all.

To be honest i had hope for him when he fell recently. Hope that the truth might finally be seen by him…
But it does not appear this has occurred. And this is because a huge part of the body of Christ has not handled him, his false teachings, and his fall into open sin, in a biblical manner: instead they continue to defend him and refuse to hold him accountable.

In fact, that is not true Godly love at all…if the body really does love him, they will be more concerned with his eternal soul then his ‘impartations’ and wild claims which tickle the ear of many.

God is the God of mercy and His mercy seat is still available for Todd, as it was for others who have fallen from grace.

Amen, this is true: and from one who has ‘been there’ i know this is fact.

But, to attain mercy we have to come to the knowledge and recognize we desperately need it. This is what leads to true Godly repentance.

Todd seems to wrongly believe he’s just ‘fine’…that he’s done nothing to seek repentance for…that my sister is self deception. Todd is living in a state of delusion which will cost him his eternal soul if he is not careful..
