Celebrating the Olympic bid defeat??

I am ashamed of my fellow American Christians. Never did I believe the day would come when followers of Christ would rejoice and gloat over America’s rejection. Surely not these folks–who call for patriotism and love of country (I say with sarcasm), and who run to the rallying call of ‘Take America Back!’.

Strike that word ashamed and change it to disgusted and sickened.

I finally figured something out: these Christians who scream about patriotism and “love” of country, don’t love anything. They are not capable of love because they have become embittered with hate. They hate our current President and his family so much that they would celebrate even this, as a personal defeat for him–and not for the country they claim to love.

What hypocrites.

It’s bad enough that members of the extreme right wing media have been lobbying for days for the rejection to occur and are now rejoicing on air and in print, across the internet, but to see Christians following suit…well, I’m just sickened.

I don’t give a hoot about the Olympics. Never have. But this makes me wonder if these hypocrites wouldn’t celebrate a disaster here as well, as long as it occurred during Obama’s time in office.

Hate is a vile wicked poison folks. Its a cancer. Jesus knows this, its why he told us to love even our enemies. (Matthew 5:43-44). It is like leaven–it eventually works its way through the whole “lump” (body).

One more thing, strike “my fellow American Christians” and change it to “people who are operating in a strange spirit”. These folks cannot be my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Windy city got the boot!!

Good! While under any other circumstances I think it would be great to be able to host the Olympics here in the U.S., given the corruption of the Daley machine and the corruption of the Obama administration, I am glad it’s going elsewhere. I would hate to see this gang of crooks profit from the Olympics. Not to mention that somebody needed a figurative slap in the face with a wet mackerel…couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

Oh the irony of the world rejecting the two biggest zeros.

Yes! I am so glad!! The world has rejected the Obama man!

Woo Hoo…

I couldn’t help but giggle uncontrollably.

Seriously, this is cause for celebration. This is representative of what we’ve been praying for…that bo and company would get the (slap down) they deserve.

This made my day brighter! Finally, Obama has been given notice that he is not universally loved by the whole world(wow big shocker there for him I guess, not so much for us.)

it’s good to see the Obamas get knocked down..

There’s a strange little warning in Proverbs 24 that those who see this President as an enemy should read:

“Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.” verses 17-18

  1. Hey PJ, look at the bright side maybe we can breathe a sigh of relief. if he was the “anti-Christ” like some on the “christian right” have indicated he should have been able to persuade the world.

  2. These men and women are sowing the seeds of their own destruction. It will come on them fast and will take them by surprise. And because of their hatred and blindness, they will never repent and turn from their evil.
God had given them over to their desires and it will destroy them.
They will reap what they have sown.

    • Gary i pray they do wake up and repent. But it only seems to be getting worse.

Lately, i feel as though im living in the middle of the old flick, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

  3. Hatred is an insidious thing in so many hearts today which profess to be Christian. How do they not realize it? I was raised to respect the Presidential office, whether I disagree with the politics of the administration or not. One can vocalize opposition in a civil manner. But this flagrant ridicule because we did not land the Olympics …from inflammatory statements up to the point of wishing President Obama dead–what kind of witness is that to a world which needs a Savior? Yet they believe themselves to be champions of America. Go figure. How much is motivated by racist attitudes? I know not all, but some for sure–whether they are cognizant of it are not. God knows their hearts.

I’ve asked myself the same question. The only answer i can come up with is they are deceived. Sometimes we can be literally and vocally against something [or someone] and believe what we are feeling and is showing is righteous anger, when in fact its not. Its the flesh.

  4. In 2005 New York lost the Olympic bid.

    I don’t recall any kerfuffle.

    • Bene, if Chicago would have been picked, the same people would have spined it some other way–probably claiming Obama was in on a ‘fix’ with the panel to give it to the US.

I read a good column today written by conservative Republican Joe Scarborough of MSNBC, and a former member of Congress:

      Thank You, Mr. President

Count me as one conservative who is disappointed that President Obama’s hometown will not be hosting the 2016 Olympic Games.

Chicago is a beautiful city that would have made a perfect backdrop for the Olympics. The President was right to fly to Copenhagen to try to land the games, not for the sake of his city, but for the good of his country. The fact President Obama failed makes me respect him more for taking the chance, and the fact many right-wing figures opposed the President’s mission shows just how narrow-minded partisanship makes us all.

For the better part of 20 years, a bitterness has infected our politics that has weakened our country.

We Republicans spent eight years trying to delegitimize Bill Clinton.

Democrats spent the next eight years doing the same to George W. Bush.

Now that a Democrat is in the Oval Office again, it is the GOP who is trying to delegitimize a sitting president.

When I try to talk to Republicans about the need to break this cycle of viciousness, some cite the chapter and verse of every hateful left wing attack against George W. Bush.

Whenever I attempt to have a conversation with some Democrats about the need for us respect our president– whether he be an Obama or a Bush– I am told that Bush deserved whatever he got because he was a lying war criminal who hated the Constitution and loved torturing

Fortunately, there are a growing number of Americans who believe we cannot continue going on this way.

You and I may disagree on how the CIA handled terror suspects. But that does not mean that you are soft on terrorism anymore than it means that I hate the Constitution.

You and I may have a different approach to Afghanistan. But just because you want to stay there another five years doesn’t mean you are an imperialist. And if I believe a decade in that forsaken land is more than enough, that doesn’t mean I’m soft on al Qaeda or the Taliban.

It just means that we view the world differently.

That creative tension–that intense give and take–has been what has kept America strong since Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton fought like hell in George Washington’s White House.

Hamilton wanted a strong centralized government while Jefferson believed that the government that governed least governed best.

Both men were frustrated by the checks and balances that stood in the way of their agendas, but that debate shaped America for years to come.

But something has gone terribly wrong.

Today on Morning Joe, NBC News Legend Tom Brokaw remarked to Pat Buchanan about how the level of partisanship is even more intense today than during the depths of the Watergate crisis.

Brokaw was commenting on Congressman Grayson’s comments, but he could have easily been talking about Joe Wilson or death panels or the bizarre claim that the President “hates all white people.”

Some of the rhetoric is dangerous. But what we saw from some conservative corners regarding the President’s failed Olympics bid was just plain stupid.

I’m happy for Rio and think it is past time that South America got a chance to host the Olympic Games. But put me down as one conservative who is glad my president flew across the ocean to try to bring the 2016 Games to America.

Nice try, President Obama. And thanks for taking time away from your young girls for the sake of your hometown and your country, Michelle. I know that’s never an easy thing to do. link

Its too bad every politician doesn’t see things the way Scarborough does–and its a crying shame that many who call themselves Christians, are worse now, then the politicians.

Scarborough is correct, something has gone terribly ‘wrong’.

  5. The Becks and Rushes of the world will be silenced by the government if this foolishness continues. It angers me most that they use the name “Christian” in their description. They are not Christian! As a result, Christian TV programs, and blogs such as this, are in danger of the plug being pulled…because of these hatemongers! satan has deceived believers into following these pied pipers. I pray that they wake up before they are led into hell!

    • Ruth i agree with you. If laws are passed curtailing certain types of speech, it will open the door a crack, for the same limitations to be used (later) against Christians. And all these Christians who follow these folks faithfully on radio and TV, (wrongly believing these nuts speak for them) will most likely never realize the part they themselves, played in it coming to pass.

It angers me most that they use the name “Christian” in their description.

      me too.

Do you ever tune in to Beck or have you lately? I am not recommending anyone do so, but lately, he seems like he’s promoting a ‘new religion’….he has begun to use scripture to move his audience. He acts now, like a cross between the Burt Lancaster character in the old classic 1956 movie titled The Rainmaker and a character played by Andy Griffith (Lonesome Rhodes), from the classic A Face In The Crowd.

  6. http://intransit.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/chicagos-loss-is-passport-control-to-blame/ indicates that the tightened security measures might be the reason for the decision against the US.

  7. While I can understand the disappointment from the folks in Chicago. it’s my understanding that the Olympics has been held in North America 12 times. already. So, I think it’s time other countries had an opportunity to host it, especially the poorer ones to whom it would be a much needed economic stimulus package, so to speak.

I also agree that that hatefulness among Christians (of both political parties and blogs) has gotten way out of hand of late. We should be able to discuss important issues which affect us all with more respect and less spear throwing on all sides.

That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t be able to discuss the issues however, because someone disapproves of it. That in itself can lead to dangerous form of censorship on the other extreme by making people feel they’re the bad guys if they disagree with popular opinion.

So I think a lot more balance is in order from both sides of the debate.

    • Rio was a good choice, and it was understandable why they picked it.

I also agree that that hatefulness among Christians (of both political parties and blogs) has gotten way out of hand of late.

Its like a disease mbaker. Spreading through-out the body.

Something i never considered over the last 30 years, was that one part of the last day apostasy here, would be founded in/on politics. That’s something i never saw coming…

  8. Hey Jan, thanks for the info about Benny Hinn.
The UK is actually better off without him, and I reckon he got a bit of a shock being turned away TWICE. The implications of this new ruling is extremely far reaching don’t you think? One wonders where on earth it is going to lead to.

I am extremely shocked about this extent of hatred for Obama though, regarding the Olympic defeat. WHAT IS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE? Things are creeping up on us – Sigh!

I just have to keep reminding myself that GOD IS ON THE THRONE.

    • The UK is actually better off without him…

You know you want him.. ahahahah… (please take him, PLEEEASE) 🙂

I am extremely shocked about this extent of hatred for Obama though, regarding the Olympic defeat. WHAT IS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE?

As far as Christians [or those who claim to be Christians] i believe what we’re seeing here, is the results of love waxing cold.

  9. it is rather odd that he can afford a private plane but not employ an efficient pa to ensure he had all the right papers. The regulations do seem rather draconian but I am sure he could have easily satisfied the requirements in order to come here if he had known about them.
and no pj we really don’t…..

  10. He thinks he is GOD remember? Hopefully the penny has dropped at last.

  11. I’m glad Chicago didn’t win the bid to host the Olympics because I love my country – even Chicago (a little). These political shenanigans called “The Olympics” consistently drain local economies. Research it (not using the Olympic committee or government studies – they have a vested interest in the lie) and you will discover that only cities routinely lose out. Gummint and other Olympic supporters routinely overstate the expected windfall, using ridiculous estimates for hotel bookings and the like.

Why would anyone want this kind of grief?

In case you don’t want to take the time, here are 4 different reports that all say about the same thing.
