Jesus said there will come men who will speak claiming their authority is from me…

“Jesus said there will come men who will speak claiming their authority is from me…There will come men who will speak in my Name. That is, I am supposedly saying this to you — that’s a very important phrase! They are going to come and say I’m speaking to you in my Name, they will work miracles in my Name, they will cast out devils…they will prophesy and preach. But when I meet them I will say, leave me, I never knew you, workers of iniquity!

Why? Because they use His authority and His Name because the power was in Jesus’ Name, or in Jesus’ authority, not in them. And God honored the Name of His Son. And they took that as a means of teaching their own false doctrines and false prophecies and because of that they corrupted the faith of the church. But inwardly, spiritually, they really roooaaar! And if you don’t know fleece from fur, you’re dinner…. And the only way you can know fleece from fur is to know how to test them. And you don’t test them by Walter Martin or by Norman Geisler, as good as the apologist and defenders of Christianity might be and as much as you trust them. You don’t test them by other people. You test them by Scripture. Then if your fidelity is the Scripture, and your allegiance is the Scripture, you reject them!

But, says Paul, in the last days men are going to be drawn away by false teachers and prophets in the Church speaking in the Name of Jesus and you’re not going to test them. You’re going to go along with them. And they’re going to fragment and divide the Church because you won’t test them.” (Excerpt from Dr. Walter Martin’s 1988 Warning to the Church )

Marsha West includes the above excerpt in her newest article,  Christian leaders: It’s about time you test false teachers

I’ll add this: The time is long overdue that ALL Christians start testing (by the Word of God) everything they hear (and see) coming from anyone who claims to be a Christian.

  1. Amen to that. Dr. Martin’s words ring so true 20 years later, as we are bombarded with these self-proclaimed “watchman” types pretending to carry on these lengthy weekly discussions with God, who tells them which events in the headlines are His judgment on the land. God supposedly dispenses this information on a weekly basis, just in time for their next broadcast to the listeners.

One of them is now opening a page on its website for listeners to send in their prophetic dreams and visions too. So we see this go full circle now: anyone who is capable of dreaming has now been given authority by these false prophets to speak on behalf of God.

Let us pray that these people can open their eyes and see this for the abomination and offense to God that it is.

  2. “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.” And, of course, EVERY man IS a liar. At some point we all get it wrong. When some claim in pope like fashion to be the oracle of God WHENEVER the prophesy, “ex cathedra” I think the term is, you have a guaranteed wolf. All things need to be subject to open debate and discussion within the Kingdom of God, WITH the Word of God as the final measuring rod AND with close attention to the teaching of the church fathers and the contemporary teachers that God has given the church. It is far to easy to dis the historical and institutional church and chase after the latest revelations and prophetic nonsense when even a superficial examination reveals dire inconsistencies with the Holy Scripture. The church has a documented history going all the way back to the cross and throughout that history the church has had to fight off wolves and their innovative unscriptural doctrines. The more one studies that history, the more one discovers that all of the crazy stuff going on today is not new, it is just the same old discredited lies that Satan attempts to redistribute in some new packaging to a new naive generation and the whole battle for bible truth has to be fought all over again. The old saying that those who are ignorant of history are condemned to repeat it is so true. True faith is trust in God Himself through His Word and NOT trust in those liars He has allegedly sent. And these days their are a lot of confused believers chasing after those liars.

  3. George, so true!

You wrote: “… The more one studies that history, the more one discovers that all of the crazy stuff going on today is not new, it is just the same old discredited lies that Satan attempts to redistribute in some new packaging to a new naive generation and the whole battle for bible truth has to be fought all over again. …”.

I listen to SermonAudio.com a lot. The other day I was listening to an Irish preacher who after only being a Christian in Ireland for several months was arrested with two other more seasoned men of God and put in prison.

Something he said kind of underscores the need for the naive to study the Scriptures more earnestly so we have a knowledgeable sense of them and can have a real personal relationship with God accordingly. If you don’t you might find yourself just as you described there in that citation I make of yours, above.

This man said of his friend after being jailed with him and another man that he was fortunate to get the kitchen detail in the infirmary ward.

He asked him why he thought that happened that he got to do the cooking for the sick prisoners; and because there were not a lot of them in the infirmary at a time he ultimately got to spend a lot more time studying his Bible and other books that he had available to him while in prison and writing? His cell which was across the hall from the kitchen was such that he could start cooking meals and because he could see the kitchen from his cell and because it was just across the hall he could go back and forth from cell to kitchen without any troubles?

His friend told him the story of Joseph in the Bible how Joseph went about serving the jailer and having the run of the place. He went further and said that when he knew he was going to be arrested he prayed to God to give him the kitchen detail in hopes of finding favor with the jailers like Joseph found favor.

This man then said that being a young Christian at the time he hadn’t as yet got to reading the Bible so he didn’t even know that that story was in the Bible to even pray such a prayer for himself as his older and wiser fellow Christian prayed.

The point was, just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you automatically will know what the Bible teaches. We need to move from milk to solid meat. If not, we are going to be more easily swayed away from the Faith once delivered to the Saints in favor of having our naive itchy ears tickled by faithless nonsense!

  4. They have a corrupt theology because once you are picking and choosing from the Bible what you want your theology has to suffer from it because your human reason is corrupt every major theological seminary that has turned from orthodox Christianity began with disbelief of Biblical doctrine. Their theology began to be touched by it their view of the Cross the Virgin Birth were both immediately questioned then came the miracles of Christ And finally they had emptied the Gospel of all its content they were simply using the outward shell so that they go on collecting money from the people and the churches because they knew that if the people in the pew knew that they were apostate they d throw them out.

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
