Family Radio Founder Harold Camping Repents

With his speech sounding somewhat slurred and labored, Family Radio Stations Inc. founder and chairman Harold Camping sought to address in a recent message why Christ failed to return on Oct. 21 as the Bible teacher had predicted. Camping confessed, after decades of falsely misleading his followers, that he was wrong and regrets his misdeeds.

In addition to attempting to correct his erroneous teachings on the Rapture and God’s day of final judgment on the world, Camping, 90, also confessed that he was wrong to claim that God had stopped saving people after May 21 – the date which God’s so-called “spiritual” judgment had begun.

This is undoubtedly a radical shift for Camping, who has staunchly claimed since 1992 that he had discovered a special numerical system in the Bible that allowed him to calculate the exact dates of certain events, such as the Great Flood, the Crucifixion and the day of Jesus Christ’s return to Earth. 1. I believe that now is a time that the church needs to envelope our arms of love around Harold Camping. He has repented publicly and this is surely a sign that the Holy Spirit has convicted him of his errors. Now is not the time to chide him, the lord has allowed ridicule to correct him. We as a church need to now put into effect that which Jesus taught us to do, love him unconditionally. Many will find difficulty doing this very simply command but regardless it is still a command from God.

Stan i agree. The Spirit of God drew him to repent, so he is forgiven. So who are we to look upon him as anything less then a child of God and our brother…

  2. This has to be one of those amazing “Praise God!!!” moments. Hopefully now his many followers will experience their own repentance and be drawn together back into an orthodox approach to faith. Hopefully they will remain disgusted and fed up with much of the chicanery and heresy that is common in the church today, but abandon their own heresy of trying to read the Bible like a pile of tea leaves. The Family Radio ministry has so much potential to bless so many. It is such a tragedy that it got caught up in this demonic diversion. I pray that it and those behind it will return to the faith of our forefathers and once again preach the Christ who is still reaching out and saving sinners and changing lives of those who put their trust and confidence in Him. And may they FOREVER turn aside from the temptation to try to figure out the dates and the times and INSTEAD rest in the security that He knows the dates and the times and everything else. He IS our security. The WISDOM of men (us) is foolishness before God. I pray that they all experience great blessing as they return to their first love and abandon silly presumptions and speculations that have cursed them over the last two decades.

  3. When preachers get caught redhanded and people stop donating, the big repentance comes out the sack. It’s on old trick.

    • Robert, unless Camping shows (by future actions) otherwise, we should take his request for forgiveness and his claim of having repented as legitimate.

    • I too have a huge problems with “I’m sorry” words and crocodile tears. But in this case, he has resigned from leadership of the organization. That impresses me. I look around at all the other silly “prophets” on the scene currently who are having all sorts of strange visions that don’t come true and I haven’t seen ONE of them make a meaningful move toward letting go of any power or authority that they might seem to hold. The way that Camping did this is refreshing. He actually finally said “I was wrong” AND “I am letting go of the ministry”. What more could one ask for?

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
