Video of Bishop Eddie Long Being ‘Crowned King’

Here’s one for the books..

A 14-minute video clip showing Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church being crowned by Rabbi Ralph Messer during one of the church’s televised services has gone viral, with members of the Christian community expressing complete confusion over the video.

The episode took place during the Sunday, Jan. 29 service, as announced on New Birth’s Facebook page as well as Messer’s, and was watched by thousands. The YouTube clip, making the rounds on the Internet, was uploaded to the video network Jan. 31.

Messer, who leads Simchat Torah Beit Midrash (STBM)– a “congregation and school facilitating inter-faith discussions between various groups, cultures, and denominations worldwide” – was the guest speaker during the Sunday service. Messer is also one of the speakers in this year’s Economic Empowerment Summit hosted by Long.

Messer teaches principles of the Torah that he claims “produce life.”

“If you have been undecided, unfocused, and unexcited, then start learning about Principles of God. You can Succeed! You have been Redeemed! Yeshua (Jesus) has a plan for your life! It is called the Torah. … Remember, a Torah Principle applied accurately will cause you to prosper Financially, Emotionally, Physically and Spiritually.”

The rabbi conducted something of a ritual during Sunday’s service at New Birth that raised eyebrows across the Internet.

Messer offered Long on air what he claimed was a 312-year-old priceless Hebrew scroll saved from the Auschwitz death camp after World War II. He then wrapped the New Birth minister in it as mood-enhancing music played in the background, and called for Long to be lifted up on a chair, similar to a throne. While Long was being carried across the podium, Messer spoke of biblical kingship, which Long was supposed to represent.

The rabbi went on to say that Long sits now between two courts, the court of justice and the court of blessings. Worshipers in attendance applauded as Long was ushered about in the air on the chair.

  1. how sad…truly th Lord is callin His outta babylon — we who are called out, look at these ridiculous events, as foreigners who belong to the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, and not as citizens of this present darkness…

    always enjoy ur blog pj…be bless… -g-

    • always enjoy ur blog…

Thank you so much for the kind words! 🙂

Yes i agree, we are being called out..

Eddie Long had the strangest look on his face…anyone else notice?

  2. Here is just another example of what the False Prophet is doing upon the minds of men, women and children around the world who are not grounded and settled in the Faith (watching that video).

I suppose we can rejoice the Lord has not turned us over to strong delusion!

2Th 2:11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,
2Th 2:12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The one thing that stands out head and shoulders over all the rest of the things that trouble me after watching that video is the fact that Scripture teaches the “greater” blesses the lesser, so, ironically, I suppose, if Eddy Long understood fully that principle and what was happening to him by the Rabbi, that is, he was being made lesser to the Jewish man before his own followers he might not have wanted to have the experience? Long comes across as a man with a big ego so once he realizes what he inadvertently submitted himself too submitting to this coronation
he might just be bothered now by it?

In any event, as I said above, I suppose we can rejoice that the Lord hasn’t turned us over to a strong delusion. It is our place to be humbled by daily bread the reality that Christ has already been CROWNED King of kings and Lord of lords, the Innocent Lamb of God Who was slain already, buried already and by the declaration of the fact He has already been raised again from the dead, He dies no more nor has to submit to such foolishness as that that is captured by the video and broadcast over you tube, having been received back to Glory?

Someone might need to educate both the Rabbi and the Minister and elucidate for them the Truth about Christ Our Coming King and His Father, Our Heavenly Father, has already established His Kingdom, of this Kingdom we are, those of us, called and elected to such Eternal Glory in Christ:::>

2Sa 7:12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
2Sa 7:13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

“…Rom 1:3 concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh
Rom 1:4 and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, …”

    • Long comes across as a man with a big ego so once he realizes what he inadvertently submitted himself too submitting to this coronation he might just be bothered now by it?

Michael i pray so. He did look sort of strange through-out the clip..

  3. There is no way I could have imagined such a thing in 1975 when I was born again. The preparations for the Antichrist are now in place.

    • Rick i couldn’t imagine seeing such a thing either.

Its an old habit i’ve gotten into, of automatically thinking,“pastor Trent would sure have alot to say about this”, whenever i see such things happening in the church today. He was my first pastor for many years until he went home to be with the Lord.

Lord have mercy! Brother Trent would have had a cow!!!

Thanks for the link…im going over to read

  4. help me out here Pj. the guy introducing the scroll is a rabbi not claiming to be christian. I’m kinda speechless. How bad will it be when these people start doing some serious false miracles?

    • Check out the rabbi’s bio at his website, its very interesting. Yes he says he is a follower of Christ Jesus but you’ll see he is a teacher and promoter of The Hebrew Roots movement, claiming to be operating under a “Apostolic and Evangelistic anointing”.

Internationally acclaimed Bible teacher, conference speaker, and Spirit-filled minister, Rabbi Ralph Messer is the President and Founder of Simchat Torah Beit Midrash® (STBM) – a congregation and school based in Colorado. With an Apostolic and Evangelistic anointing, Rabbi Messer actively teaches the Hebrew Roots of the Christian Faith, fulfilling the great commission to “…make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19). As the founder of Simchat Torah Beit Midrash, Rabbi Messer is pioneering a work to bring the “Good News” of Yeshua (Jesus Christ) in the Torah to the ends of the earth.

  5. Charisma News also posted a story on this event. I was reading through the comments people left and noticed one in particular:

I don’t want to have compassion for him. I think people who hurt children should have a special place in hell, …I just remember seeing him and how boastful and prideful he was when I use to live in Atlanta. This does not look like him at all. I think he should step down permanently. I just felt a little sad about the whole thing.

She’s right about it not ‘looking’ like the old Eddie Long i recall seeing on TV and on videos at youtube.

I know im repeating myself, but the guy looked strange. His demeanor through out, was odd.

  6. Messer isn’t a rabbi, he’s an evangelical quack – part of the Hebrew Roots movement.

You’ll like this PJ – this professor rips Messers nonsense to shreds.

    • Bene, that was an excellent article! Thank you so much for the link..

Cal asked about the claim concerning chromosomes, hope he reads this.

  7. “Man has 22 Chromosomes, the 23rd was added by man”

    What does that mean?

  8. It’s a darn shame what this man is putting himself through just to show he’s remorseful of his action! But of course, I would just ignore him! Hey! What he did, he did, and he’s not alone! Just look at those Roman Catholic priests and for how long they capitalize on the silence of those young men. Let’s not forget about the Jewish rabbi’s! They also have their share of promiscuous behavior.
But what’s even melancholy that, “you still have folks that buy into his sacredness of God with donating their $$$$! and these are the same folks that are screaming about the economy. They’re just as imprudent as he in trying to turn around and practice

    • But what’s even melancholy that, “you still have folks that buy into his sacredness of God with donating their $$$$

      Amen, you’re right 😦

  9. Forgive me if this offends anyone, but i have to share this. A bit of humor thrown into a serious issue has been God’s way of keeping me balanced & sane. 🙂

Idolatry? My church did this to me last week… except instead of the throne it was a bucket seat out of a 1982 dodge conversion van… and we couldn’t get the scroll so I held a box set of the the left behind series. I think we sang some Johnny Cash song too instead of ‘pave the way’. Afterwards we paraded around town in my old Chevy Pickup with the muffler falling off while listening to the Gaithers. Oh yeah, and I was anointed with Speedway brand 5w-30. Does this make me king of Futon County in Ohio?

  10. Poor Eddie. He only gets to rule over the city of Atlanta. Peter Wagner gets the whole state of Delaware.

    • Well by using city in the ancient sense to represent the country/state as a whole being crowned king of Atlanta is being crowned king of Georgia. Therefore Eddie is king of Georgia.

Wagner better get a move on with “conquering” more states! All he gets in Delaware in Fortune 500 companies and Joe Biden.

  11. I appreciate your posting this friend. It is sad that multitudes will follow these scam artist.

    • It appears as long as these folks have followers, they’re with us to stay. Least until the Lord returns…

  12. Richard Bartholomew (Barth Notes) added a little more information about Rabbi Ralph Messer:

This is not the first time Messer and his scroll have come to the rescue of a beleaguered evangelist; in 2007 Tampa Bay Online reported from Randy White’s Without Walls International Church, following White’s split from church co-founder Paula White:

[Randy] White preached for a few minutes before turning over the pulpit to Ralph Messer, a Messianic rabbi from Denver who teaches about the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith.

Messer preached about the Torah and Jewish entrepreneurship and spoke again at the 11 a.m. service, where he led the congregation in a prayer that ended emotionally for White.

“I declare today that my bishop has entered into a new season, a new season, a new season,” Messer intoned, prompting White’s followers. “Now, give him glory. Praise God.”

As emotions in the sanctuary reached a high point, Messer hugged White, telling him, “I love you. I love you so much.” White, a prayer shawl draped over his shoulders, stood clutching a Torah scroll, head bowed, with a pained expression on his face.

Alas, the “new season” was decidedly wintry – within two years the church was facing foreclosure and Randy had stepped down due to “stress”. His ex-wife Paula then returned to the pulpit.

  13. Collecting Torah’s is idolatry and Roman Catholic icons. The sensationalistic services continue. Truth bows before emotions.

  14. King of what?

  15. RIDICULOUS. 1st of all, Biblical Kings had to READ, Meditate, and Write the Torah, not wrap themselves in it, and they weren’t allowed to multiply gold unto themselves.
DISGUSTING. I’m tired of this tomfoolery disguised as Godliness. This is nothing but the doctrine of the Nicolaitans… another way to manipulate and Lord over others.

  16. Messy Ralph Messer Response by Michael Rood

Hebrew Roots teacher Michael Rood responds to a video of a self-proclaimed Messianic Jewish Rabbi anointing Bishop Eddie Long, who recently settled a multi-million dollar lawsuit for allegedly molesting teenage boys.

Michael sets the record straight on so-called Messianic Rabbis and exposes “Rabbi” Ralph Messer as a fraud. Find out why Messer can’t read the Hebrew Scriptures and what he has failed to understand in the scriptures because of it.

    Michael, citing scripture:
    * Explains why Messianic Judaism and Messianic Rabbis are oxymorons
    * Teaches on the true meaning of the word “rabbi” and what Yeshua said about calling each other by that name
    * Tells us what Yeshua had to say about the man-made rules and regulations set in place by the Pharisees – the same rules and regulations that Messianic Jews regard today
“If you don’t know the scriptures, you can easily be taken in by these con artists out there who are making their money off of the new Hebrew Roots movement; this is exactly what Messer has been doing,” Michael explains.

Watch as Michael breaks down how Messianic Judaism feigns a true Messianic religion, but in its beliefs rejects the very teachings of the Messiah it claims to follow.

    • Sarah, please believe me when i say your commenting is much appreciated, and i hope you’ll return. But Michael Rood is not anyone i would recommend.

      From ApologeticsIndex:

Michael Rood is a self-proclaimed Messianic preacher who was ordained as a Christian minister in The Way International (TWI).

Rood has continued many of the themes and practices which made TWI theologically a cult of Christianity.

“Michael John Rood is an ordained nondenominational Christian minister and Messianic rabbi,” according to a brochure Rood produced to promote his seminars which have been held around the United States. Unfortunately, Michael John Rood and his teachings are not credible or accurate. Rood is not trained, certified or recognized as a Rabbi, and his “ordination” by a cult called The Way International (TWI) required only minor instruction in an unaccredited TWI program. His central teachings depart radically from the evangelical Christian faith, and several of his teachings and practices are typical among cults rather than among Christians or Messianic Jews (that is, Jews who have accepted Yeshua [Jesus Christ] as Lord and Savior). Furthermore, many of his teachings and practices are drawn from a cult called The Way International which was incorporated in 1954 and widely denounced by Christian leaders and TWI’s ex-followers alike. About 95% of TWI’s followers have left TWI after seeing its severe errors, and many ex-leaders of TWI have founded a variety of splinter groups or ministries, just as Rood has.

Michael John Rood has continued many of the themes and practices which made TWI a cult. Both TWI and Rood:

      *disparage the Christian Church as full of deception and pagan practices;
      *consider themselves to be the one source of truth, the revealer of the unknown Mystery and the way out of “pagan” Christianity;

*follow the teachings of one Man who can lead them out of deception,

*warned that America would be attacked and destroyed by Communist powers,

*promote highly speculative, unfounded and inaccurate theories,

*devote attention to minute detail on areas of “research” that have essentially little significance,

*criticize celebration of Christmas (TWI replaced it with “Happy Household Holidays),

*use similar terminology, such as when Rood refers to believers receiving “the gift of holy spirit,” (Mystery of Iniquity, p. 54) meaning that they receive the human spirit which Adam, lost at the fall, not “the Holy Spirit” as evangelical Christianity teaches,
promote the “Lamsa Bible” written by George Lamsa, which claims to the translated from the Aramaic and therefore more accurate than translations from the Greek.

Lamsa actually rejects most central Christian beliefs (his doctrine is similar to the Unity School of Christianity where he worked for many years) and his translation is deeply flawed in many ways (“George M. Lamsa– Christian Scholar or Cultic Torchbearer?” Christian Research Journal, by John Juedes on Rood’s claim to have identified the exact day of Jesus’ birth while defaming the celebration of December 25 is also something TWI claimed to do. TWI’s book, The Promised Seed, also identified Tishri 1, 3 BC, between 6:18 and 7:39 P.M. as the date and time of Jesus’ birth. (Although Rood says that was Sept 23, while TWI says it was Wed. Sept. 11, because Rood claims to use a “corrected” Hebrew calendar.)

Rood is different from TWI in his legalistic requirement that Christians keep the Torah and observe the Saturday Sabbath and Hebrew festivals. (Although TWI did emphasize obeying certain universal laws, such as believing and tithing.) On the surface, Rood seems to contradict TWI teaching by emphasizing Hebrew religion, while TWI showed some anti-Semitic characteristics such as denying the WWII holocaust.

Rood is considered one of the leading figures in the so-called “Hebrew Roots” movement. This is a movement within the Christian church that claims to teach Christians the “Hebrew roots of the Christian faith” through the study of the Jewish foundational teachings.

The “Hebrew Roots” movement actually consists of various movements ranging from benign to dangerous in their teachings.

Rood is associated with the most unbiblical form of the Hebrew Roots movement.
