A 7th advertiser backs away from Limbaugh’s show

NEW YORK — A flower company is the seventh advertiser to pull its ads from conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s radio program in reaction to his derogatory comments about a law student who testified about birth control policy. ProFlowers said Sunday on its Facebook page that it has suspended advertising on Limbaugh’s program because his comments about Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke “went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company.”

The six other advertisers that say they have pulled ads from his show are mortgage lender Quicken Loans, mattress retailers Sleep Train and Sleep Number, software maker Citrix Systems Inc., online data backup service provider Carbonite and online legal document services company LegalZoom. ProFlowers had said on Twitter that posts it received about Limbaugh’s remarks affected its advertising strategy. ProFlowers is an online flower delivery service.

  1. As a believer I am against boycotts as such. But I must admit I pray that Limbaugh’s program disappears. The evil one has deceived millions of professing believers through men like him and Hannity, O’Reilly, and Ann Coulter.

    • Amen!

The impact they have had on Believers (and the Nation as a whole) can be seen in the “ugliness” which has taken-hold of this Nation.

  2. Rick,

honestly I am of a contrary opinion!

I would caution the immature, uncovered believers when listening to these folks to be aware of the realities they are espousing. I would not be so prohibitive seeing these folks give us a great example of just how the schemes of the devil work through articulate minds in the world today.

And, for me, that’s a good thing to not be ignorant of the schemes of the devil as he plies his craft through intelligent people.

I don’t know what Rush’s believe system is? Do you? I do believe the others you mention are hot and luke warm “Catholics”!

    • Michael i believe he is a non-practicing Methodist. I know he has claimed to be a Christian on many occasions.

I do believe the others you mention are hot and luke warm “Catholics”!

      Which one is hot?

    • Evil is not our template. Jesus and the Scriptures are. I don’t need talk show hosts to be informed as to the wiles of the devil.

Rush and others are only one slice above the Westboro Baptist Church and everyone would be better off without them. Since you asked, Rush is a practicing hedonist who is happily married to his fourth wife.

    • Coulter’s a presbyterian, Hannity is probably the ‘hot’ catholic and O’Reilly is catholic by virtue of being Irish.

By their words and actions, none of them seem to be Disciples of The Way, The Truth and The Life.

      Also Rick,

Why are you against boycotts? Maybe how they’re going about it? Or over a particular issue?

    • Cal thanks for the info!

By their words and actions, none of them seem to be Disciples of The Way, The Truth and The Life.

      Sadly i have to agree😦

    • Although I can’t speak for Rick, I am also generally against boycotts. One reason is that I see them as being of little value. Compared with the effort and sometimes expense required, what you get out of them at the end is not a whole lot. Secondly, there is a risk of making a martyr out of the cause you are attempting to boycott. Thirdly, in the case of someone like Rush, if you simply leave them alone, they will often eventually hang themselves, at which point others will do the boycotting for you and save you the effort. I also do not personally believe in the “fairness doctrine” for some of the same reasons. Censorship is not the answer, the answer is ALWAYS the Gospel of Christ which can withstand all assaults. When people depart from that Gospel, there is simply no hope for them and no amount of public boycotts and/or government censorship will fix the problem. Only a broad public consensus can put these issues to rest, and, at this point, we are nowhere close to that.

    • Although I can’t speak for Rick, I am also generally against boycotts.

Speaking of boycotts George, i just read this thread at Rapture Ready,

      Boycott the Rush Limbaugh boycotters

Here we have the head moderator at the largest Christian forum on the internet calling for Christians to boycott, in protest, the advertisers who pulled out of Limbaugh’s program.

I ask myself, who are these people?!😦

    • Thanks George,

I think we’re on the same page. I think of a boycott also in personal terms. So if I was running a small business and had advertisement in a paper that produced an editorial spouting bigotry of any sort, I may ‘boycott’ it and remove my advertisement because I do not want to support such cruelty. Not necessarily to censor, but as apart of the Kingdom I act in the world and be in the daily life of Babylon, but I must work for the peace of the city as I await for the True City to descend from Heaven, behind it’s King, at the sound of a trump.

    • Of course, when an individual advertiser decides to drop Limbaugh, that is NOT a “boycott”. It is simply a business decision on the part of that advertiser. A “boycott” is an ORGANIZED effort to intimidate the target by damaging them financially. What is actually happening with Rush in the form of individual advertisers dropping him like a hot potato is simply the free market economy at work, a concept that Rush himself is always paying lip service to. (ha! ha! ha!)

  3. I found it very encouraging that NONE of his fellow travellers stepped up to voice support to his tirade. All the way from spokesmen for the Catholic Church (its THEIR issue), to the extreme conservative presidential candidates voiced shock and horror at his remarks. This is a good sign that finally these people are, perhaps, getting a glimpse of the ugliness they, themselves, are engendering. This outburst by Limbaugh was not solely a product of his own invention. It was something that had been nurtured over a long period of time by the suggestions and innuendos of those, who though more discreet, have been, nevertheless, guilty of subtlety spreading religious and political FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt). Limbaugh just repeated the same logic in a crude and in your face style.

  4. PJ,

    that’s a good question.

I honestly don’t know nor would I be able to say or represent who is hot or luke warm among that crowd. I do believe O’Reilly, Hannity and Coulter are Catholic, though?

  5. Even Republicans are beginning to be seriously annoyed by this circus. I can’t imagine that most independent voters that are being subjected to all of this will be voting Republican in November. My take is that Rush has just pounded one more nail into the Republican coffin. All the anger and bitterness these people are feeling toward the Democrats are about to consume them. This is NOT the way to run a successful political campaign. And it is really disturbing because we really need a conservative voice in our government to challenge the excesses of liberals. It is really unfortunate that conservatives have taken this bizarre, all or nothing approach that may well leave them in the ditch. May God have mercy on our country.

    • One thing about this disgusting fiasco has (imo) been very odd. Not ONE pro-family activist group has condemned Limbaugh. Yesterday i received an email from the organization ‘One Million Moms’. What was their focus on? J.C. Penny’s, Macy’s department store and Clorox commercials which in their opinion offend. Ahaha!! How ridiculous!

Clorox commercials are offensive but what Limbaugh said over the course of 3 days wasn’t? This world is nuts George….

Music from Broken Chords
