Israelis Fear Plans To Strike Iran

Bloomberg News,

Dozens of Israelis crowded in front of a storefront at a Jerusalem shopping mall yesterday to pick up new gas masks, part of civil defense preparations in case the military strikes Iran and the Islamic Republic or its allies retaliate.

“It seems that Netanyahu and Barak are making a special effort now to prepare the Israeli public for an attack on Iran,” said Shlomo Brom, a former commander of the army’s Strategic Planning Division, who said any strike could come within the next six months.

If a preemptive strike occurs what should be the Church’s response?

  1. I feel Israel must attack in light of the threats by Iran,If they get the bomb they could easy become the first country to commit mass suicide just to destroy Israel. As the wild olive branch I think we should pray for and support the natural olive branch

    • Your understanding of the olive branch analogy from Romans 11 leaves much to be desired

    • I believe Cathy (peacemakers blog) has posted an excellent message (written by her husband at soulrefuge) which addresses the question asked, “If a preemptive strike occurs what should be the Church’s response?”

Below is only a small portion David, but i hope you will read the entire message.

Israel and Iran. It is August 2012 and the war drums are beating yet again. As born again Christians, what should our position be?

When planes are dispatched into the air, and bombs are dropped, there is a great chance that many innocent civilians will be maimed for life, or even worse, simply killed. Do you remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan? What would Jesus, the Messiah and Son of God, do in such a situation as this? Would Jesus support Israel if they eventually considered the option to attack Iran, and followed through with it? I say no. Suppose it was reversed and Iran decided to attack Israel in similar fashion, would Jesus the Messiah support the attack? I say no. Listen to what Jesus had to say about his kingdom which is spiritual in nature:

Jesus answered, MY KINGDOM is NOT of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. (John 18:36)

You see that Jesus the Messiah, was very concerned for souls, (and we should be too) and he knew that any soul (Jewish or Gentile) who died without Jesus Christ would die in their sins, and spend an eternity in a very real place called Hell. Jesus was never partial in his dealings with people, and he certainly did not exalt his own Jewish people to a higher place than any other group of people…

What prompted my question was an email i received from Mike Evans (Jerusalem Prayer-Team) this week. The letter’s title was “US message to Israel: “Don’t rely on us to finish the job”

Evan’s appeared “stunned” at the possibility that the United States might not automatically jump into another war if Israel decides to launch a preemptive attack on Iran:

The nation of Israel is reeling from the news report that the Obama Administration has sent the Netanyahu government an unmistakable message—“Don’t rely on us to finish the job” with Iran. With the election now less than three months away, preventing war in the Middle East is outweighing all other considerations with Washington because of the impact on the economy.

      He goes on to write,

This is a tragic and short-sighted decision. Iran’s nuclear program is a threat to far more than just Israel. For the radical Islamic terrorist-sponsoring mullahs of Tehran to have these weapons of mass destruction is a lethal threat to the entire world. If the world and the US will not take the necessary steps, then Israel will be forced to do what is necessary to halt Iran’s evil work.

My old friend Prime Minister Netanyahu will be meeting President Obama in Washington next month in what many observers believe is the last-ditch effort to prevent the horrors of open war that will fall on the Jewish people if they are forced to do what the world will not to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. This is an urgent moment in the history of the Jewish people, and we must do our part to help deliver them from destruction.

God has spoken an eternal promise of blessing for those who bless the children of Abraham. God has spoken an eternal promise of judgment for those who curse the children of Abraham. Today I’m asking you to be a blessing to God’s Chosen People.

The letter continues with a prophetic ‘word’ concerning sending money, etc etc…

At least two things struck me at reading this, one being the use, by Evans, of a preemptive Israeli strike seen as an opportunity to ask for money; the second was Evans’ apparent “shock” at the possibility that the government of the United States just might not back the Israeli governments preemptive strike!

But folks, this is where we are today. Being expected to automatically, without question or hesitation, support any and every action taken by the Israeli government. When i say “we” i’m referring to our government, yes, but i’m especially referring to American Christians. This is where the faulty teachings of dispensationalism has led us. Its why you don’t (and won’t) hear Christians condemning any wrongful action taken by the Israel government.

Evans, in his letter, not once mentioned the need for prayer for Iranian OR Israeli followers of Christ. In the minds of Christian zionists they are expendable…or worse yet, invisible.

  2. The church’s response should be the gospel to Jews nad Iranians. BTY – The Spirit is drawing many Iranians to Christ even in their present situation.

    • The Spirit is drawing many Iranians to Christ even in their present situation.

Praise the Lord. The Holy Spirit is truly amazing Rick..

My prayer is that multitudes of both Iranians and Israelis come to Jesus in the very near future!

    • Thanks for your reply,I agree .My problem is there is the threat of a terrist attack anywhere at any time weather a British subway or a bus in Bugaria.I would like to see them stop work on there nuclear power plant and every body relax,,however if not they must be attacked.Oh by the way I really like your site see ya

  3. I agree with Henry too!

Jesus taught us about “dispensational signs”. Some have inappropriately interpreted them and have amassed a following because of that.

Oh well, not a one of us will miss our appointment before the judgment seat of Christ.

As for going to war, if Obama wants to be sure to be reelected, he should do everything in his power to keep wars going! He has a better chance of getting a vote when the United States is in the thick of prosecuting a war or two than when we in perceived peace time.

There is a full time war going on in the heavenlies. And the day is coming when it will cease. Remember what God describes were the peaceful souls of Noah’s day just a hundred years before the great flood? Jesus said as much and more when He said what the signs of the times will be when He finally comes as a Thief in the night!

And then there is that Evans appeal for money! grrrrrr!🙂

    • As for going to war, if Obama wants to be sure to be reelected, he should do everything in his power to keep wars going! He has a better chance of getting a vote when the United States is in the thick of prosecuting a war or two than when we in perceived peace time.

Yes you’re probably right Michael. I’ve wondered in recent years if G.W. Bush would have been reelected if we hadn’t been engaged in war.

Perhaps Obama should lay the groundwork for a “Wag the Dog” scenario.🙂

For those who don’t recall that is what then President Clinton was accused of doing, by a few journalists in the late 1990’s, when he launched cruise missiles into Afghanistan in the midst of all the Monica Lewinsky business.

Idiom Definitions for ‘Wag the dog’ – To ‘wag the dog’ means to purposely divert attention from what would otherwise be of greater importance, to something else of lesser significance. By doing so, the lesser-significant event is catapulted into the limelight, drowning proper attention to what was originally the more important issue.

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
