Barack Obama, President of the USA & God’s Will

This post as you can see, actually appeared at 5 Pt. Salt back in September. The author wasn’t exhibiting any kind of psychic ability about the 2012 election, but was referring to the 2008 election and pointing out an important truth to those Christians who have (for the last 4 years), expressed the idea that the results of 08 were “not” according to God’s will.

I saved this within my feeds to share with you today, irregardless of who had won last night, for it would have also applied, and does apply, to this election result.

Think Barack Obama as President of the United States was not God’s will? Think again.

By all means, vote in the presidential election, but know what our God has made perfectly clear:

“I have made the earth, the men and the beasts which are on the face of the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to the one who is pleasing in My sight.” – Jeremiah 27:5

“But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another.” – Psalm 75:7

“It is He who changes the times and the epochs; He removes kings and establishes kings; He gives wisdom to wise men and knowledge to men of understanding.” – Daniel 2:21

“the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, And bestows it on whom He wishes And sets over it the lowliest of men.” – Daniel 4:17

“All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’ ” – Daniel 4:35

  1. Of course it was God’s will to have Obama as president again. God is sovereign and every detail of every event was written in His book before the foundation of the world. This is where the silliness of people who say, “You should have voted, then we could have gotten that monster out of office”. God knew what was to take place and ordained each event accordingly. We must always remember this.

    • Amen…amen.

If we can just remember that, we’ll always retain our peace regardless of who’s ever elected or what’s transpiring in the world of politics.

    • Exactly. When our priorities and focus are in the right place (God), then the whole world makes sense and we understand that our loving and sovereign God is in control.
Our hope and peace will definitely pass all understanding.

    • I understand your sentiment, but to phrase it as if God commanded actively everything that is, is mere fatalism.

Human beings elected Barack Obama, every vote “counted” (for the sake of the argument, I factor out the inevitable voter fraud that has existed everywhere). Yo could have “made a difference”. And yet, God is still sovereign and it did not thwart His Will nor did it take Him by surprise.

The Will of God is Jesus Christ. Everything else is commentary and scribbles.

    • Cal, its not a matter of God commanding, its a matter of His will being always being accomplished.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21

If you’ve ever seen a hand stitched quilt, one which has beautiful designs stitched all through it, then you know if looking at it while standing too close, you’re unable to really see how the beauty of the designs come together. But lets say you have someone hold that same beautiful quilt up from a distance; what happens is the total designs in all their beauty can be clearly seen. The same thing could be said for oil paintings done by great artists: these too can only be truly appreciated by standing back at a distance. Up close, all we see are the many layers of paint…not what the picture actually depicts.

God always has a purpose Cal and the powers that are, including government leaders, are placed there by God. Just because we’re unable to see or understand fully, doesn’t mean what is occurring around us isn’t actually leading to God’s will ultimately being accomplished. We see and understand in part because sometimes we’re standing too close, but God, who sits upon his throne sees it all now….the ultimate design he is weaving…the finished picture.

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.Romans 13:1-2

    • Nicely said, PJ…couldn’t have said ti better myself.

    • As a PS. I chose to abstain my vote as well.

    • I agree, His will is done in spite of seeming actions of men to make otherwise.

My point was simply there is a difference between “we know that in all things God works for the good…” than everything is good and in accordance with His will.

I’m not trying to justify or excuse the absurdity of the electioneers who obsess. Just when I read something like “every detail of every event was written in His book before the foundation of the world”, I get a sense of fatalism and a diminishing of the fact that it was the Lamb who was slain before the foundation of the world; that’s what both sets history and gives it meaning.

Clarifying: I’m not saying God is not sovereign, just that history is real.

Think i understand what you mean Cal, and i agree. One example is when God decreed Nineveh’s destruction. Jonah’s preaching to the people and their repentance afterward seems to have moved God to relent:

3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent. 4 And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. 6 Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying,

Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish?

10 Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

      Jonah 3

The book of Nahum tells us God did eventually destroy Nineveh.

  2. God is never at the mercy of democracy. But man love to worship it.

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
