The path many evangelicals began traveling down in order to legitimize Mormonism and no longer view it as cult, was seen during the recent election. After Romney won in the primaries it was a ‘given’ for how else could Christians, one’s who had for decades demanded a Christian in the White House, actively support a Mormon?. They couldn’t. Thus Mormonism, in their estimation, was no longer a cult. Forget the truth which is it has always been seen (and rightly so) as a cult…a false religion; in the same manner Islam, Hinduism, or Buddhism is a false religion. Lets just toss that out the window for the sake of politics, right?
And now another step down that path of apostasy leading to the final declassifying of Mormonism as a cult. Franklin Graham says we are hurting Mormon’s feelings if we refer to their religion as a cult. That we are “calling people names”.
The word hypocrisy appears in this post’s title, but apostasy would have been a more truthful term to use. For when we see well known Christian leaders working hard to legitimize a false religion there is no other way to say it…they are apostate.
Below is Dr. Walter Martin in 1985 at Brigham City, UT explaining what Mormonism teaches.
