The Confused Thinking among Christian Zionist

While many if not most of their teachings are confusingly unbiblical, this is one I received in my email today.

A group of distinguished foreigners visited Jesus after His birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

They came “from the east” to worship the Christ, “born King of the Jews.” They asked, “Where is the Child who has been born King of the Jews? For we observed His star at its rising, and have come to pay Him homage” (Matt 2:2).

“May all kings fall down before Him”- Psalms 72:11

The three gifts have several symbolic meanings. All three gifts are costly offerings AND gifts given to a King.

Myrrh was often used as an anointing oil (also used as an embalming oil and incense at funerals—symbolizing death)
Frankincense as a perfume (symbolizing Jesus’ divine status here on earth)
Gold as a valuable (symbolizing kingship on earth)

These men prayed and then traveled through difficult land, on camels and foot no less, because God told them. He gave them the star as a sign to light their way.

They were wise and they were blessed.

It’s easy to get caught up in today’s physical world and forget the power of prayer and blessings. Sometimes it’s like electricity…

We can’t see electricity. We only see the results.

The same is true with prayer.

I have seen prayer accomplish some amazing things in my life, and I’m sure you have too. We are all so blessed. We may not physically see our prayers connect with Heaven, but we know that they do.

These 3 Magi got to experience this and so can you.

It’s as simple as prayer.

It is important for us to understand that pray works—even if we can’t “see” it! And we can use the power of prayer to direct our lives into positive and productive channels.

But here’s the secret, many times our prayers require us to participate. You can’t just sit there waiting for something to happen. You have to get out there and act upon it. Just like the Magi who FOLLOWED the star…

In Genesis 12:3, God said, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

God loves Israel. God has sustained Israel and His children for generations. You can help bless “the Apple of God’s eye” and join thousands who have been a blessing to Israel and released a blessing in their own life!

We know that the Magi released a blessing in their lives when they brought their gifts! And now we can do the same at this special time of year.

Think about this...by comparing the response of the Magi when finding Jesus,

After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2)

To what the authors of this ad believe our response should be toward the state of Israel, they are telling us modern day Israel and Jesus Christ are one and the same. Do you see it?

And folks, this is dead wrong. It’s actually heresy.

  1. First off, I have been to Israel. From my point of view there is going to have to be a great and powerful move of God for that Jewish Nation to let go of their history and accept His-Story!

Second off I was thinking correctly that the catch is sponsor a ministry in the United States helping them financially so they can plant a tree in every county in the United States! Hmmmmm, now I am praying for understanding as to how that blesses Israel. When I was there the main thing Israelis were pointing too was for foreigners to get tourists to come over here by the multitudes to visit the sacred sights and learn a little bit about the history of Jesus, a Jew they as a nation rejected and killed thinking they were doing God a service! Hmmmm? Ok God I prayed, what gives?

Finally, Christians are not welcome there if all they want to do is preach the Gospel freely on the streets. Geesh, even the Muslims there are opposed to that!

Ok, I vented, now do I get my cookie and glass of milk?🙂

  2. And I have also heard the prospeity folks say that “See, Jesus was rich even as a child”. Nonsense again.

  3. P.J.,

Scroll down a little. It’s about a nice little scheme where you sponsor an olive tree and the ministry gets 10% of the profit of the tree.

Quite how they work that out, I’m not sure, but I find it ironic that Palestinian farmers are being denied access to their land to tend their olive trees and trees are being regularly uprooted. Typical Zionist myopia.

    • Yes i read that too Steve…

….I find it ironic that Palestinian farmers are being denied access to their land to tend their olive trees and trees are being regularly uprooted.

Amen, it is sadly ironic. This is what happens when groups like Zionists–both Christian and Israeli gain such a strong political position among certain governments, such as the US government. Sadly wrongs like this are allowed to take place.

  4. Israel has become the evangelical talisman.

    • It sure has Rick.

Going through my email today i saw a recent letter from Mike Evans head of the Jerusalem prayer team, titled “I am outraged…and you should be too!”.

And why is Evens encouraging all Christians to be “outraged”? Because our government recently spoke out (again) against the continued building of settlements,

Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said “Settlement activity only puts the goal of peace further at risk,” and urges both Israel and the Palestinians to halt all provocation and to take steps to revive peace talks.

      Evans goes on to say,

I am outraged that the US government would take this position against Israel. When God made His eternal promise to Israel, Washington, D.C. did not exist, only Jerusalem, D.C. (David’s Capital.)

and then asks for $$ for his Jerusalem ‘projects’.

Irregardless of the settlement question, the Christian Zionist mind-set believes nothing modern Israel does should ever be pointed out as wrong by any other government.

  5. I see I need to make one editorial correction to my previous post. “From” should replace “in” every county.

But I am sure the astute among us could figure that typo error out seeing the video appeal makes it clear their goal?

My bad hands and fingers. I swear if I didn’t need them to eat cookies and drink milk from a glass I would be typing this with my nose and toes! Maybe my ears, but that would slow things down even more than no fingers and just a nose and toes!🙂

In the mean time, let’s not forget that Jew Jesus was killed by them Jews not for Jesus and He does have the final victory and the last Word regarding this matter before dinner with His Bride made up of Jews and Gentiles including Palestinian Christians and and and Christians from every epic and nation to be so on earth from beginning to end!

Ahaha! Michael, i know what you mean. I’m a self-taught typer, having never tackled a typewriter or key-board until getting a computer. Needless to say im slow and make loads of mistakes on here daily.

And what a dinner that will be my friend! The family of God all together at one table…from every nation. Thinking about that day makes me weep with anticipation.

  6. I found myself thinking about this post, and the many others i’ve posted on the topic of Christian zionism before dropping off to sleep last night. One thing came to me and that is it seems the primary misconception from which all other misconceptions this form of theology is built upon, is that of God’s chosen people.

Christian zionists, and most if not all dispensationalists, still cling to the old testament (old covenant) belief that Jews (or more specifically, the Jews living in modern Israel) are still considered God’s chosen people.

In other words, they are completely ignoring the new covenant.

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. Eph. 2: 13-16

Think about it: where can you find the Jews referred to as God’s chosen people in the new testament? I can tell you, no place. Under the new covenant, as it was under the old covenant, there is still only one people of God (or chosen people) and those are all, both jewish and non-jewish believers in Christ Jesus.

Perhaps i’m seeing this more simply then it really is, but it does appear to me that this misconception of still recognizing Jews (Israeli Jews) as God’s chosen people rather then seeing that the new covenant says otherwise, is “the” cornerstone building block upon which this theology was built, called Christian zionism.

Take away that unbiblical cornerstone and their remaining unbiblical doctrines would crumble.

  7. I would add another misconception that adds to this dispensationalism that fuels the fire of this sort of error comes from misapplying this verse attributing it to that special class of children from Abraham:

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
Gen 12:2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Sometimes it does take the New Testament exegesis of the Apostles to understand the meaning there (Genesis 12:1-3)?

For instance when you read back to those verses about bless those who bless you from these verses:

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands–
Eph 2:12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

you should be able to understand that even in the days of Abraham, for instance his trusted servant sent to find Isaac a wife, many people of other family trees had the “same” blessed Faith given to them as is hallmarked there in Genesis 12?

The key is the “Faith” granted to the creature that obtains the blessings, blessings not unlike Abrahams.

Michael, you make an excellent point. Faith was and is the Key.

I was reading a commentary on Genesis 3 earlier which points out God’s plan was always to create ‘one man’ (by/of faith) who would be heirs according to the promise given to Abraham,

God remembers the Gentiles when He calls Abraham, promising that every nation, “all the families of the earth,” will be blessed in the blessings of Abraham. Paul, “the apostle to the Gentiles” (Romans 11:13), carries the thought to its conclusion when he asserts that the line demarcating Jew and Gentile disappears in Christ: “[T]here is neither Jew nor Greek; . . . for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:28-29).

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
