Lessons For Israel From An Ethiopian Man And Isaiah 53

Good Bible lesson at Soul Refuge

There is a great passage of scripture which is found in the New Testament book of Acts that is very clear, regarding the prophecy from Isaiah 53, as it pertains to Jesus Christ. This would be a good passage of scripture to preach and expound on, at the annual CUFI (Christians United For Israel) conference, or perhaps at the Night to Honor Israel gatherings across the country. Here it is:

And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. (Acts 8:26-29)

  1. I’ll tell about two events similar to this story underscoring that as true believers we can and should baptize a person on the spot as Philip did.

Once while driving about an hour and half drive to an appointment a Christian brother and I picked up a lone hitchhiker. He was going farther south than we were but wanted to get farther down the road than where we picked him up. As we went along my Christian friend and I started talking back and forth about the book of Romans and Colossians. We totally zoned in on one another forgetting we had this stranger in the car. About forty or so minutes into this intense conversation we felt this presence between us at our shoulders. It was this guy wanting to interrupt our conversation because he had come under conviction from the Spirit and wanted to receive salvation and prayer! We were stunned into our senses and led him to The Lord through prayer. Our drive ran parallel to a river so he asked if we would baptize him! I knew a place were the locals swam so I directed my friend to get off the highway and go there. It was about 8:30 a.m. . We got out of the car and headed for the river took our outer clothes off and baptized the guy!

We then got our clothes on and headed back to the car and off down the road we went. When we got to our destination the guy asked us if we could spare a Bible? We had one and gave it to him dropping him off and going to our appointment. We had our car windows down and as we drove off we could hear the guy praising The Lord giving Him thanks!

Another time while in Nigeria we were visited by an acting Governor of a state in a neighboring country. The Governor came to pick up some money i agreed to loan this man’s nephew who happened to be the exiled King of the GUI Kingdom in Togo, West Africa.

We did not know this Governor was not a Christian but Muslim instead. My friend the King was a true believer so we assumed his Uncle was one too. As the night progressed and after dinner we gathered to have a Bible study and prayer. The Lord touched this Govenor’s heart and he was insisting on being baptized right then. It was about 9 p.m. at night. So we headed to the bathroom and filled the tub partially full and got in it and baptized him!

  2. Amen

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
