Christians Trained To Convince Churches To Re-Interpret Scripture’s Gay Boundaries

There was a time, and not that long ago mind you, I would have thought this was ludicrous. But sadly, the times, they are a-changing folks. Who knows where this may lead in today’s crazy (secular AND Church) world? For the last 20 years I’ve sat back and watched while Jesus’ teachings on the most basic Christian doctrines have been ignored and God’s word has been used like some type of “ultra-conservative” political document by so-called CHRISTIANS…so who’s to say what the so-called visible Church may do next?

Fifty hand-picked Christians were part of a seminal conference last week planned by Matthew Vines, a 23-year-old gay Christian who believes Scripture allows for monogamous homosexual activity, in an effort to spread the idea in the American church over the next decade. Vines says he has had success in convincing lay members of churches over the last year that monogamous homosexual activity is allowed by Scripture, but is encountering resistance from Scriptural scholars. He is likely to encounter much more, say theologians.

More than 100 people applied to participate in the four-day conference, though only 50 were accepted, and the chosen were required to rigorously study throughout the summer before the conference even began. Vines sent them 1,100 pages of dense, academic reading material, for example, to make sure they understood both sides of the issue before the event began last Wednesday.

“The goal of the conference was to be training Christians who are in churches that don’t currently support LGBT people and to give them the biblical tools and knowledge that they need to go back to their churches and have constructive, persuasive conversations with other believers on these issues,” Vines told CP.

  1. Pendulum swings, back and forth. I looked at some of the comment on the article and they just added more wood to the fire. In our sex obsessed age, this issue becomes a pillar and a hill to die on.

Jesus is not pro or anti homosexuality, or even pro or anti heterosexuality, but pro-marriage as a sign of His work. Adam and Eve as the proto-type of the Christ to His kingdom. Like kings of old, He is married to His people and His reign.

The issue ought not to be homosexual sex, but non-marital sex, which is a sin like all the others. In fact, many churches are willing to excuse or promote greed, gossip, lying and the shedding of blood. I’m not asking for perfectionism, but grace, humility and an end to self-righteous hypocrisy.

It sure appears that way Cal, doesn’t it. I like what you wrote,

Its sin, period, that is the issue, not one specific sin but all, in this case we’re looking at sexual immorality. Its funny that those who scream the loudest and most often about the sin of homosexuality never mention the sin of say, adultery, where it concerns the Church. It all goes back to the way in which sins are “rated” today–some being considered worse then others. I for one cannot accept this. Any and all deliberate, willful, continuous, unrepentant sin will lead to the same consequence: Being alienated from God and Spiritual death.

    • That’s a very interesting way to put it. It is not “about homosexuality, or even pro or anti-heterosexuality, but pro-marriage as a sign of His work.” Very few of the arguments I see make such an important point.

  2. If Jesus is the word (John 1:1), then Jesus says gay sex is sin, because that is what the Word says.

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
