It’s always “nice” to see how my tax dollars are being used.
Israeli Forces Teargas African-American Interfaith Peace-Builders Delegation in Bil’in
On November 1st Interfaith Peace-Builders’ 2014 African Heritage Delegation to Israel and Palestine visited the West Bank Village of Bil’in. For over a decade Bil’in has been the site of weekly demonstrations against the illegal expropriation of village lands for an Israeli settlement, made famous by the Oscar-nominated documentary ‘5 Broken Cameras.’
As Palestinian activist Iyad Burnat led the delegation on a tour of the wall separating Bil’in from village lands appropriated into the settlement of Modi’in Illit, Israeli forces tear gassed the group without warning. The tour stayed on the village side of the wall, and no demonstrations were taking place at the time.
Israel launches large numbers of teargas canisters at civilian areas in the West Bank every week, often at civilian protests. Despite being labeled “non-lethal” or “less than lethal” these types of tear gas canisters have killed Palestinians in protests across the West Bank, including brother and sister Bassem and Jawaher Abu Rahma in Bil’in. These weapons are often produced in the United States and paid for with US tax dollars.
