From Possessing the Treasure:
9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, 10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, 12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 NASB)
…..we must never forget that God is omniscient and omnipotent. He is sovereign. When we are attacked as we serve Him, it is for two reasons. The first reason is that God has allowed it. The second reason is that our enemy and his minions desire to discourage us or make us afraid and create some sort of leverage in which to thwart us in our ministries. These are the people who, when we share God’s truth with them, they ignore it and like Lot’s sons-in-law, cannot discern that we are giving them the truth. They are spiritually blind and hard of heart. They may be very religious. They may believe they are actually serving God when they persecute those who actually are serving Him. God does give people over to their idols when they love what is not true as if it is the truth, refusing to believe us no matter how often or fervently we share God’s truth with them.

The verses above from 2Thess.2 should give any Christian pause. What a frightful thought! The idea that we can shun the truth to the point of God Himself sending a deceiving spirit/influence which will “confirm” the lie we have chosen to believe over the truth. Do you realize what that means?
