SNAKE-HANDLERS, FALSE MESSIAHS, AND A FEW GREAT SOULS: 14 Who Passed in 2014

Interesting article and bio’s.

No other end-of-year list can hope to offer such profound juxtapositions: a groundbreaking female Mennonite pastor alongside an “immortalist” con man; the transcendent wisdom of a civil rights leader alongside one of the most hate-filled religious figures in contemporary memory. But here it is, a connect-the-dots portrait of a powerfully complicated American religious landscape, circa 2014.

*Edited to add there are a number of other very interesting “end of 2014” stories posted today at Religion Dispatches, which  include the two below:

  1. Boy oh boy, a list of who’s who? The one name that stands out to me that I did have respect for was, Johnny Lee Clary. He had a great testimony of where he came from. The Phelps Westboro man, boy was he a psychotic way out there in Looney land. This list is definitely not a list of unity regarding the Word of God.

    • Some of these names i didn’t know of aagrove. The one you mentioned (Johnny Lee Cary) was one of those i’d not heard of until reading this today. From reading this i imagine he did have an outstanding testimony! If you have any links (to it) would sure be interested if you’d pass one on!

Music from Broken Chords

Down in the human heart, crush'd by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore; Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness Chords that were broken will vibrate once more. From the Hymn "Rescue the Perishing" by Fanny J. Crosby
