The Promise of His Coming

God will invade. But I wonder whether people who ask God to interfere openly and directly in our world quite realize what it will be like when He does. When that happens, it is the end of the world. When the author walks on to the stage the play is over.

“God is going to invade, all right, but what is the good of saying you are on His side then, when you see the whole natural universe melting away like a dream and something else–something it never entered your head to conceive–comes crashing in; something so beautiful to some of us and so terrible to others that none of us will have any choices left? For this time it will be God without disguise; something so overwhelming that it will strike either irresistible love or irresistible horror into every creature. It will be too late then to choose your side… That will not be the time for choosing: it will be the time when we discover which side we really have already chosen, whether we realized it before or not.

“Now, today, this moment, is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It will not last forever. We must take it or leave it.”

~ C.S.Lewis

This is now the second letter that I have written to you, beloved, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder; that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own passions and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water, through which the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works that are upon it will be burned up.

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of persons ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening[b] the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be kindled and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire! 13 But according to his promise we wait for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  2Peter 3:1-13

  1. I wish there was a forum where believers could offer edification, insight and prayers on this topic. We are waiting for the Lord’s return. It can’t be said enough that this event would be a shock to our system, we who don’t see God’s supernatural power anymore (unlike the First Church). The apostles saw the Lord after His resurrection and saw Him ascend into Heaven. They first saw Him, and believed. We who yet haven’t seen him, have to go by faith only, and for those who are weary, heavy-hearted, weaker, and sickly, and discouraged, have a harder time imagining the heavenly realm. It’s when we’re well, that we should be discussing these things. Imagine telling a very sick patient dying in a hospital bed about streets of gold. I find that many Christians are of the mind that if we aren’t ‘positive’ about this life, that we aren’t victorious in our walk. A great happy life is all we should reach for, they say. Their idea of heaven on earth is indulging, and hoarding, the dominionist’s view of God’s Kingdom. That does nothing to help the weaker and older christians, who have nothing to gain from this world. And, we eventually all will be weak and old; are we preparing for that eventuality, with the Word and the excitement of His Return. The Coptic Christians who were beheaded, were reported to have cried out to Jesus. Praise His Name. That was the only thing that was important to them at that moment, and it’s the only thing that should be important to us, yet the Church acts like it prefers to look to worldly saviors, and they put His Name on the back burner, until, of course, they need something.

Because the Glory of God has been exploited by many though theatre and deceptive signs and wonders, many become skeptical and refuse to entertain even a thought of a spiritual event. Our minds are tuned in to only what we can see. We have a lot of faith in everything we can see, and we haven’t exercised our ‘faith’ muscles, nor prepared our minds to see what will inevitably be too hard for our minds to grasp. It’s like a person seeing a miracle and saying to himself, “I don’t believe what I’m seeing, it’s not computing”.

The work of Satan’s system is constantly keeping the christian’s mind(in the West) in the affairs of this world, worry about “Fifty Shades of Grey”, worry about liberal politics, gay’s agenda, atheists’ agenda, refusal of leaders to call “terrorism” for what it is, how our government isn’t supporting Israel, and on and on, and all topics that have absolutely no bearing on “are we preparing our hearts now before the great and terrible Day of the Lord”? Distractions, decoys, worldly lusts and passions and self-righteousness, Kingdom on earth-building, and that will all be burned in one instant. I wish Christians would deny the sensationalist christian news sites, and encourage one another instead. I pray there are true christian internet sites, like this one, that will speak on what is important.

To think that we are a few heartbeats away from meeting our Savior, Jesus Christ. That thought occupies me a lot. It could happen so suddenly, and I don’t want my last thoughts to be about what Saturday Night Live, or the Superbowl or worldly topics that christian sites pre-occupy themselves with, and the hatred and belligerent comments that tear down. We have to be careful, I include myself, about what I allow to put in my mind. I can’t even trust the Church today, as it is over-run with men and women who prefer to raise emotions of hatred and condemnation. It’s like many christians thrive on negativity and like groupees, hang around sites to destroy our faith.

  2. Dear PJ; hope you know I enjoy this site and wasn’t referring to it being one of the sensationalist sites. I don’t what I’d do if I didn’t have this site to come to, among others, It’s like a refuge.

Also, one more thought I had today. If the Lord returned at a time when a Mars Colony was possible and citizens from our world lived there and children were birthed there, would they be part of earth? The Word says that God sent His only Son on earth to redeem man. Does that include descendents who may live on Mars?

I guess my point is that if we are living in times where it’s close to sending men on Mars, it must be very close before the Lord’s return. I wonder why Jesus never spoke of men’s scientific achievements that would put men on the moon, or on other planets. It almost would seem that man is so confident in himself, that he’d defy God and try to procreate on an uninhabitable place, that was never meant for mankind to live on. Would this colonizing another planet be the last straw for the Father? The last straw whereby man tries to reach the heavens, like the tower of Babel?

    • Sounds like you saw the news story about a number of people buying one-way tickets to Mars??? Can’t recall how many years in the future this ‘trip’ is suppose to take place, but frankly i can’t see it happening.

Dear PJ; hope you know I enjoy this site and wasn’t referring to it being one of the sensationalist sites. I don’t what I’d do if I didn’t have this site to come to, among others, It’s like a refuge.

Really appreciate the kind words Marie, just wanted you to know you’re always welcome to comment, in how you see fit, on any topic. I’ve posted a number of messagesbased totally on God’s Word (use to do it more often) but people rarely seemed to want to discuss them. I had even considered doing bible studies here at one time, but felt no one was very interested. I base that on the fact of many posts which included mainly scripture, being ignored.
