Scriptural evidence the Lakeland revival is not of God

Under the post: Unclean Birds show up at FL. Revival, one of the comments left today was excellent: its a teaching in itself, leaning heavily upon Scripture. Please people, those who are defending this movement without checking out what the Word has to say, read this.

Posted today by Josef of Pure Gospel Truth

Scriptural evidence the Lakeland revival is not of God:

(2Co 11:4). For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

The “Jesus” that Todd Bentley is preaching is not the Jesus of the Bible. His “Jesus” doesn’t preach and emphasize deep repentance, denying self and carrying the cross, selling one’s possesions to give to the poor and needy, forsaking ALL to follow him, and freely bestows his “anointing” on all who have heretical or bad doctrine and loose, immoral lives.

The “spirit” that Todd Bentley is operating under is causing manifestations that DO NOT APPEAR anywhere in the Bible. He has been known to cause animal manifestations as well (clucking like chickens, barking like dogs, etc.), all of which are manifestations that have long been associated with pagan and heathen religions but are found nowhere in Scripture, except with Nebechanezzar at the judgement of God.

The “gospel” that Todd preaches is a gospel of seeking after signs and wonders. It’s hocus pocus. Angel feathers, gold dust, diamonds falling, seeing female angels, again, all of which are found nowhere in Scripture. Seeking after miracles and not after the face and heart and burden of God is a deadly delusion that will lead one straight into accepting “another spirit”. There are MANY spirits in the world, which is why we are called both to test the spirits, and to test those who purport to be prophets and teachers by their DOCTRINE. Their doctrine must be solid and sound, and Todd’s is more new age and hype than it is sound Bible doctrine.

(2Th 2:8-11). And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming. Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

We need not say that just because there are many genuine miracles, that the whole move must be of God. The Anti-Christ himself will do many signs and wonders. And the mystery of lawlesness (anti-Christ deception) is already at work in the world. Anti-Christ doesn’t neccesary outright oppose Christ, instead, he counterfeits him.

(2Co 11:13-15). For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Angel encounters are a constant theme in his meetings, and people just soak it all up, not even thinking to seriously question it. But who is to say these angels are truly the angels of the Lord God, and not emissaries of Satan sent to deceive? Todd claims that his healing anointing comes from an angel, but there is no record in all of Scripture of an angel giving somebody an anointing. The Holy Spirit is the only One who anoints God’s ministers. If the anointing is from an angel, it’s a huge red flag.

(Col 2:18-19). Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Glean what you will from that Scripture, but do note this, it is a very dangerous thing to speak constantly of angels and to give them the glory for an anointing. I don’t want any part of an anointing from any angel, I only want the HOLY SPIRIT’S anointing, period. Because I don’t know whether it’s an angel of God or an angel of light sent to deceive.

(Mat 7:22-23). Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Note, just because somebody:
1. Calls Jesus “Lord”
2. Prophesies
3. Casts out demons
4. Does many *wonderful* works (which includes healing people)

Just because they do all these things DOES NOT mean they are of God! It’s not a few, but MANY, that do these things and do not belong to the true Jesus of the Bible. The Catholic Church still does genuine excorcisms (casting out demons) to this day but they are serious idolaters who preach ‘another gospel’. Signs and wonders is no proof of being genuine or not. The only way we can tell is by:

1. The doctrine of the teacher (2 John)
2. The fruit of their life (Mat. 7)
3. Discerning of the spirit they operate under (1 Cor 12)

PLEASE PEOPLE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE FROM THIS END-TIME DECEPTION!!! IT IS A DANGEROUS THING TO EMBRACE ANOTHER SPIRIT THAT’S NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!

In Christ – Josef

  1. Good post. I am trying to remain cautious and yet hungry for a genuine revival. I think too often we have preconceived notions about what a revival should or should not look like but I think that we are so spiritually shallow that we don’t really know what revival looks or feels like.

  2. Yes it was an excellent post by Josef…

You make a good point Seeking Disciple, many people do have preconceived ideas about what a true revival is like and the purpose for God sending one.

  3. I have attended many meetings in the Puget Sound Washington area led by people that follow Todd Bently and others. The other night God sent me and a friend to a meeting where the Pastor had been to Lakeland and was praying for the people in the meeting to receive the “anointing” that he received from Todd Bently. He kept talking about how powerful the “presence of God” was in the local meeting, yet the meeting was so dry and I could barely feel the LORD’s presence. As he began to lay hands on the people at the meeting, I began praying against any demonic activity and forbidding the devil to touch God’s people. The first 1/3 of the crowd fell when the man prayed for them, but after I prayed hardly anyone else fell down. A friend said while she was up there the man praying with this man of “God” tried to physically push her down so she’d fall. Please pray for these brothers and sisters who are falling into deception that God would deliver them and open their eyes to the truth.

  4. As he began to lay hands on the people at the meeting, I began praying against any demonic activity and forbidding the devil to touch God’s people.

PRAISE THE LORD Elizabeth, for obeying the Spirit of God!

I’ve been in meetings where i also have prayed in just that way–and you know what? It was answered!

One such meeting comes to mind in which the person[s] were doing something similar to what you related: they were laying hands on everyone present to ‘impart’ some type of anointing [they said]…an old Christian sister was with me that night, and she leaned over and told me to pray that “if” this wasn’t from God that these people would not come near us.

Well they went to every single person in that room but her and i!

I was a young Christian back when that happened, but i learned a valuable lesson that night from that old sister–one i’ve never forgotten. God is pleased with us when we ‘test the spirits’….and He does not want us to accept everything or everyone without praying and ‘putting them( the spirits” ) to His test.

Your comment blessed me Elizabeth.. thank you so much for sharing it.

Would it be that all Christians had your Godly wisdom and discernment.

  5. Thanks pjmiller, all Christians could have wisdom and discernment, it comes from God 🙂 (smile). “If anyone asks lacks wisdom, they should ask…” I came out of gross deception years ago and pray often for God to deliver me from deception and for Him to take the planks out of my eyes so I can help others. I’m still spinning around on the Potter’s Wheel as the Master works on all my flaws. I am amazed that I still got caught up in the gold dust and angel feather stuff – we’ll sort of, GOD IS FAITHFUL! After going to several churches that move in that stuff, I was pouting before the LORD that I didn’t see angels. He said “Aren’t I enough for You?” It broke something. THANK YOU JESUS!

Anyway, another WARNING GOD SHOWED ME….Many of these groups who go after signs and wonders have something called “Fire Tunnels” where people line up on each side and then everyone walks through the tunnel while the people lay hands on them. The LORD reminded me of a Scripture where God was angry that they “made the children to pass through the fire”. He warned me that you have no idea what you’re getting when you let just anybody lay hands on you. God showed me that His Word says “signs and wonders will follow those who believe” – they will come after us naturally without us seeking them, as a result of our submission to God and walking Holy in His sight. However, His Word also says that “a wicked and adulterous generation follows after signs and wonders”. And that’s what’s happening now. Many of the bretheren are seeking after the signs and wonders and idolizing the people who manifest them and are falling into deception. Many are seeking the gifts instead of the Giver of the gifts. (I know, I was there too.) Dear Precious Abba Father, please deliver us all from deception and help Your children not to be deceived (or deceive others). I love You Father.

  6. Good points – Scripture alone should be our Guide and the Holy Spirit our Director.

  7. After going to several churches that move in that stuff, I was pouting before the LORD that I didn’t see angels. He said “Aren’t I enough for You?” It broke something. THANK YOU JESUS!

    Amen amen!! He is enough!

Though He spoke that to you, i sensed a confirmation in my spirit when reading it. That was truly our Lord’s ‘voice’ speaking.

While in prayer for my children and grandchildren one evening, weeping asking God to keep his hand on them, ( once again) the Lord spoke to me: “Is not my hand big enough?”

I wept with joy, but also realized i had been ‘mildly’ rebuked. aha! See, before that evening i use to constantly weep and pray for them…but that evening i placed them in his hand and do not doubt any more.

Many of these groups who go after signs and wonders have something called “Fire Tunnels”

I believe i read about that term somewhere…

The LORD reminded me of a Scripture where God was angry that they “made the children to pass through the fire”. He warned me that you have no idea what you’re getting when you let just anybody lay hands on you. God showed me that His Word says “signs and wonders will follow those who believe” – they will come after us naturally without us seeking them, as a result of our submission to God and walking Holy in His sight.

Yes! I have read no where in scripture that we are to seek after signs and wonders, but instead to seek after God.

You made another excellent point Elizabeth….

  8. I agree Joel…

The word of God is our guideline….every sign, wonder, and experience needs to be held up to the mirror of the scriptures. If it does not line up with the word, we need to be very cautious.

  9. The LORD is faithful and just, He will judge those who led His people astray. He will also save those who have been deceived (If they are willing). We just got to keep praying, for His coming is soon.

  10. The Bible speaks of false prophets and being led by strange and false doctorines. That is why the Father told us that we must try the spirit by the spirit, so that we are able to discern those things that are not of God. Our adversary(satan) goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. So stay prayed up saints and stay rooted and grounded in your word. That is man is of the enemy because God word even says that the devil is a liar and the father of all lies, so we must not be ignorant of his devices. I am so very greatful however that when the enemy comes in like a a flood that the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard against him. Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior keep you all in His care is my prayer.

  11. So stay prayed up saints and stay rooted and grounded in your word.

Amen sister…. we can depend on the word of God to never change and keep us grounded.

He will also save those who have been deceived (If they are willing)

Don you’re right…God will deliver those who are deceived, but they have to be willing to see the deception for what it is first.

Deception (especially self deception) is a ‘sticky wicket”…if you think about it:

When we sin, if we’re born again we know it….If we begin to grow cold in the Lord, the day does come when we recognize the coldness: but when one is under a spirit of deception, the problem is they do not know it. In fact they believe they are ‘fine’ spiritually and with God. This is why deception is so dangerous. The bondage of deceive-ment (or any bondage a believer is in) has to be acknowledged or seen, before the person can cry out to God for deliverance.

Its my opinion, but i believe the best thing we can do when seeing a brother or sister in this type of deception, is pray pray PRAY! Asking the Holy Spirit to open their eyes and heart to the truth.

The truth will break the bondage of deception, if once the person sees they are willing to let go of the lie. As you pointed out, “if they are willing..”

I’ve been saddened to witness some who are unwilling: they would rather hold to a lie then let it go.

  12. I have watched the revival on the web and am now a moderator in one of the chat rooms.

After 15 days, of participating, TWICE per day, I can tell you that I am now in the Kingdom of God. I wake up in the Glory of Jesus every day since last Thursday. My mind has been cleared of all past traumas including the ancient ones from before the creation (the fall). And much much more.

I can only tell u what I did. I found out about it two saturdays ago and by the second day, I placed my destiny in God under the mantle of this MOVE OF GOD, and since then, I have reaped all the benefits of this Glory Of Jesus which comes to meet us at each meeting and is also present in cyberspace in the chat room.

This Glory of JEsus is now IN ME, always. I woke up sunday morning in the Glory.

Friday, I did more things throughout my day, errands, cleaning, laundry, cooking, TWO meetings for the revival, and at midnight, I said WOW what a day. not tired. enjoyed it all. I have joy, peace of mind.

this is MY personal testimony to you all.

This revival is a move of our God.

I love u all, see u in the chat.

  13. After 15 days, of participating, TWICE per day, I can tell you that I am now in the Kingdom of God.

But have you been born again nada?

This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

  14. .Christians everywhere need to do their own research today and investigate everything themselves and compare what is written in the Scriptues. You cannot even trust the media today that goes by the name of “Christian”, as “Christian” comes packaged in many flavors. Good scripture references, pj!

    Toni

  15. Ladynada,

Yesterday you posted the exact same post – word for word – on another site!

    What’s going on?

  16. Christians everywhere need to do their own research today and investigate everything themselves and compare what is written in the Scriptues.

True Toni…the Church in the US has become lazy. I believe thats one very good reason why a huge portion of Christians just grab-hold to any/everything which comes down the pike, accepting its from God without really looking into it.

kena, i noticed the multiple [same] posts also. I checked out this forum and chatroom which Ladynada linked to…after reading on it decided to remove the link before releasing her comment.

  17. Please check this out!! I did my own research to make sure I am not being decieved!! The things that are coming out of Todd’s mouth line up with the teachings of the bible. Please be careful!

  18. It is important to understand that the previously cited scriptures concerning false apostles and false doctrines were written to counter the chief heresy of the day, which was gnosticism, the Greek-influenced claim that Jesus did not come in the flesh. I don’t think these passages can just be applied generically to whatever you happen to disagree with.

Besides which there is in fact a call for salvation almost every night, and the doctrine of Jesus having come in the flesh is certainly not in dispute. Other important Christian issues such as holiness and repentance from sin are mentioned more than occasionally. Salvation is required for eternal life, but there is also much more to Christian living before we are called home to heaven. The revelation of Jesus as Healer and Great Physician, happens to be His chief expression in this revival.

Jesus promised in Mark 16 that signs and wonders would follow all those who believe (not just the 12 Apostles). While the Bible may not expressly endorse the physical manifestations that are occurring in the Lakeland outpouring, the Bible does not expressly forbid them either. The signs the Apostles performed were new in their day, and they were persecuted by the established religious leaders of that time, not unlike Lakeland and other modern outpourings have been criticized in their respective times.

Demanding our careful consideration is the wonderful fruit from this phenomenon. People are genuinely finding release from years of torment. Discouraged ministers are being encouraged and finding new zeal. News reports of the event are leading to the wonderful names of “God” and “Jesus” going over the airwaves. Public interest in Jesus is being piqued. In short, the name of Jesus is being glorified, at a rapid pace in a short time. We need to rejoice over these things, that in these days of great darkness a bright light is shining somewhere!

To “revive” is to restore life to that which was once alive but has died. Revival is first to the church, to Christians who came to the Lord Jesus but have spiritually fallen asleep, cooled off, waivered from their first Love. It stirs the church reawaken to the reality and love of Jesus Christ and to a world in great sin and in great need of forgiveness and hope.

So, regardless of whether or not you accept the Lakeland outpouring, are you personally inspiring and encouraging your fellow Christians as much as they, to joyfully love and serve Jesus as long as you remain on this earth? Think about it, please, before judging or writing off this phenomenon too hastily.

  19. LadyNada is lying to everyone. You can check it out for yourself.

There is a page on Ustream.tv called the upper chat room, a channel/group created by a user.

When you make a ustream broadcaster page, like the upper chat room, you automatically have a chat room added to your free page.

She’s a moderator on that page, created by the “revival’ groupies.

She is not a moderator for Ignited Church or Fresh Fire Ministries, and is not connected with the revival herself, just by internet.

It just goes to show how far these people will go to keep the truth from stepping on their rice paper “revival.”

Please, don’t believe me. Check it out for yourself, to see if these things are so.

BTW, she has spammed the same message as the initial post, on many, many, blogs about this false revival.

It’s all about Todd and his angel.

  20. I have experienced (and believe) that the counterfeit comes before the reality. Am now reading something I printed out from the endtimepilgrim.org website about “Latter Rain” that explains well the difference, and the good fruit nonetheless.

This, after being shunned and persecuted by other “Spirit Filled” believers back in my former home state for daring to stand back and say “this isn’t quite of God”. Oooh, the wet blanket! 🙂 The wet blanket protects well from false fire! But God bless them; it’ll all work out in the end, and nothing like being at peace and heeding the Spirit of Truth, Lord Jesus.

  21. PJ and everyone thank you for telling the truth, it is helping so many people.

My sister and her husband and I attend a church that is slowly being caught up in this revival fire. Please pray for us! We have emailed our pastor’s with questions about the doctrine’s being preached (or lack of) at this so called revival and also the angelic circus associated with Bentley, King and Mostly Bob Jones. I had warning type dreams about this revival before it ever started, and sadly did not know enough about Latter Rain, William Brannen etc to even discern anything but I know God was warning me. We all three are hungry for scripture and reading the bible but we feel so very deceived about the lies we have been taught about scripture and these nutty “movements” throughout the church. We have all been to bible studies at other churches because ours rarely offers them so we all felt this was not of God. We have spent the last several weeks researching and studying this to take this information to our church leaders, but we have heard nothing back.

I know we all discerned this because we tested the spirits and are familiar with scripture and consider our relationship with Christ the most important thing in our lives, but this past Wednesday at church was so very hard. We have had a woman in our congregation be taken off life support after many hours, only to wake up and breath on her own, and now people in our congregation are saying this was because someone from our church went to Lakeland and “Transfered the annointing”. I am so very sickened and afraid for anyone who would take a miracle God performed and attribute it to men or angels…these people are already so deceived and it’s just begun..

The people at our church service Wednesday were yelling, screaming “Fire” and just completely caught up in a frenzy. The pastor made a few vague references about not worshiping Angels, but mostly he made comments about people with religious spirits, complainers etc. The emails we sent him were very kind and appreciatory for his guidance in the past, and his support of us and in no way accusatory. They were written in peace and love and we prayed before we sent them. I have never felt a greater sense of urgency about my brother’s and sister’s in Christ. We were in spiritual warfare in our church and it was so sad and awful!. Once I looked up and while all the craziness was going on were were all three on our knees in prayer, weeping. I was shocked that our beloved pastor was looking at us and he then began to chastise “people” for not believing and then asked the church to pray for miracles. This was hard to take because you feel so brainwashed by this stuff, and when he said those things you start to question yourself, how could us three little nobodies on our knees in the floor be right and all these people be wrong? I know THAT fear comes from Satan, not from God.. I have come to realize that we have to be pro-active in our faith and theology, and regardless of what we are taught by our leaders we have a personal responsibility to seek the truth. I will serve Jesus no matter the cost and so will my family. Please pray for us, I know there will be more of this to come and we may be asked to leave this church. God has put on my heart that when we do we leave in peace, but that right now I feel he is telling me we need to stay there and be a light in the darkness. Even if we are laughed at, ridiculed etc. This church has been a family to us and it will be very hard so please pray for us! Our associate Pastor will preach this week and he has been known to throw darts from the pulpit, I am pretty sure they are coming in our direction. Lord gird us up and anyone who is facing this…I am looking at this as a way Jesus is using to mature us, not as something scary or awful. Also that we may have had an unhealthy need for fellowship or acceptance or something….I have no idea I am just trying to make sense of things.

Thanks so much I know this is so long but we feel very unsupported by our friends and clergy right now so please forgive my yapping away!!

    God bless you all !

  22. Thank you for your heart felt comment mrsbucket…

How wonderful that God saw fit to warn you before hand–He knew you had an ‘ear’ to hear. So many today don’t.

Please pray for us, I know there will be more of this to come and we may be asked to leave this church. God has put on my heart that when we do we leave in peace, but that right now I feel he is telling me we need to stay there and be a light in the darkness.

Yes, i will remember you and your family in prayer…

I was attending a church some years ago…i loved it and the people. But the last year i was there [also members were my 3 adult children, their wives/husband and my 8 grand-children] the pastors began introducing many teachings which were unbiblical. Over a period of 12 months, not only false teachings were coming from the pulpit, but demons were actively manifesting in the church.

I knew that i knew, we would be leaving, but not ‘when’…

God chose to keep us in that church for months after this started..it was hard to go to the services-very hard.

But i went, kept silent and watched [and waited to be released to leave]. Looking back now i have a clearer understanding as to why God kept us there. I [or my children] could have never learned what we did without seeing it first hand.

God used it as a learning experience for us.

It sounds like God may be doing the same with you my friend.

If so, you will come away wiser to the ways of the enemy, and may just help pull one or more ‘out of the fire’ when you are released to leave.

  23. Is the Bible God. No. Mark 6 says people search the scriptures because in them they think they have eternal life, but they refuse to come to me that they may have life. Any power that the enemy has, cults, etc.. is only a counterfeit of the real thing that God and His church is SUPPOSED to have. Satan is a created being, He cannot create, He can only counterfiet, lets stop giving him power that he doesnt need to get. maybe if we believed in a God who was all powerful we would not have a problem with signs and wonders and then we could quit listening to the lies that keep the church powerless and religious and not powerful and relational. So come on Jesus let the mysteries be hidden from the wise unless they can believe you like a child. Oh yeah its intersting that the pharisees were the most learned people in the scriptures, adn bible verses, and when Jesus showed up they thought He was the devil adn they could not recognize Him. hmmmm? Also Paul said he fully preached the Bible with signs and wonders, hmmmmm? Jesus said those who followed me would do the works that i do, hmmmmm? He only did what He heard and saw the Father doing, healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons, hmmmmm? I wonder what the will of God is and His ways are not mans ways, so lets stop making God a little powerless human. Ok, I love you all, and let the truth set you free. Peace

  24. Preston, not to be offensive, but your first words nullify anything else you wrote:

    Is the Bible God. No.

God is not ‘a’ book–but the words within the Bible are God breathed.

    and who is THE WORD?

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

You have fallen into the modern day thinking which discounts or belittles the Word of God, replacing it with experience.

Mark 6 says people search the scriptures because in them they think they have eternal life, but they refuse to come to me that they may have life.

    I think you may be referring to John 5;

(Jesus said )Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. verses-39-40

He was speaking to those Jews who were conspiring to kill him (see the whole chapter)

What he was pointing out Preston, was that these were Jews [leaders] who had spent a lifetime pouring over the scriptures [old testament writings] and studying them daily…and that these scriptures, if they had only discerned them correctly, had all been pointing to what they saw in front of them at that very moment: Jesus! And that they were plotting to kill the VERY ONE the Fathers of old, had foretold of coming…

Also Paul said he fully preached the Bible with signs and wonders, hmmmmm?

Key words: “he fully preached the Bible”

Signs and wonders FOLLOWED the preaching of the GOSPEL. They are to be a sign to unbelievers confirming the Word.

I’ve watched some of the services at Lakeland–that is not what is happening.

  25. OK..I am fairly new to this. Raised in a baptist church and just felt like I was hungering for more of the worship and spiritual aspect of church..moved around and tried a few churches, landed in an on fire spirit filled assembly of God church. Then came a prophetic conference with some of the people who are ministering at the Lakeland Revival…Lots of emphasis on signs and wonders and healings, which I DO believe in..isn’t this a part of what the Christian life is about? Living in the miraculous? Now the Lakeland revival is all I hear about. Friends of mine have traveled 14 hours to go there and bring back the “impartation” to us. I don’t understand this. I want to go deeper with the Lord..to learn what HE wants from me..to live a life so close to Him that I can feel the beat of HIS heart…I am confused about all of this. Could I get some feedback please…….

  26. Hi Paula..

I too believe in God sent signs and wonders today…but where many get off track is they go looking for them rather then waiting for them to show up. Signs, visions, Angel visits, etc become the focus, rather then Christ and the word of God.

Its kinda like being unbalanced in the way of many who don’t believe God still works through man by the gifts of the Spirit. If you were raised in a baptist church then you know what i mean.

One can be out of balance (or extreme) on either end.

Friends of mine have traveled 14 hours to go there and bring back the “impartation” to us. I don’t understand this.

Me either…and i’ve been in pentecostal-type churches since i got saved 28 years ago. AOG and now COG.

What does God give ‘them’ that He will not give you or any other seeking Christian? Does God show partiality between his children?

You see what im getting at…

In other words, has God ‘given’ some special ‘impartation’ to Todd Bentley, allowing him to impart it to others…? What about [if this is true] those who cannot make it to Lakeland Florida–what are they, out in the cold?

See, the whole idea is wrong.

You know where i was saved? In my livingroom early one morning when no one else was home. God came to me–he called me to himself.

I have known people who were baptized in the Holy Spirit right in their own homes, alone as well—one guy i know was in his car! aha

We don’t need to travel ‘somewhere’ to have ‘someone’ we don’t even know–or his beliefs/doctrine/teachings to lay hands on us to receive from God. If you read about some of the great men [and women] of God of the past, you’ll find out that in most cases they had their deepest experiences with God while alone.

I’ll be frank Paula, i wouldn’t want any type of impartation from Bentley–nor those ministering with him. His doctrinal beliefs are so skewed and ‘out there’ they are spiritually dangerous.

When allowing people to lay hands on us, we have to know the ‘container’ its coming through–amen? To know if they are solidly standing on the word…

    A quick story–

years ago i attended a womens conference at my church. The guest speaker was a wonderful Christian; she and her husband pastored a big church out in California, and were close friends with my pastor; they had traveled to our church in the past many times, holding one or two day meetings.

Well, he died suddenly a month before she was scheduled to be guest speaker at this conference: No one expected her to attend, but she felt she should carry on with the work of the Lord., so came.

It was a good 2 days…the conference went well. One the last day though, she wanted all the ladies who would, to come up to be prayed for….I went along with perhaps 20 or so other ladies.

When she came to me and put her hands on my head, and prayed, (then went on to the next person) i heard a voice as PLAIN AS DAY–it seemed audible to me–say ‘why don’t you die…kill yourself!’

My daughter-in-law who also attended and was standing near me, told me afterwards , at the moment i was being prayed for, i had the strangest look come over my face–

To make a long story short…i had the worst 2 days of my life after this occurred. Thoughts of suicide flooded my mind for 48 hours. EVEN THOUGH I KNEW it was a demonic spirit which had spoken and attached itself to me, i was powerless to do anything about it for that 48 hours. Finally God intervened and it left me.

Where did it come from? That wonderful Christian lady…when she laid hands on me. God showed me she was suffering from deep depression over the death of her husband, and that spirit was tormenting her, but had attached itself to me. Why? Because i had suffered with a life time of depression and had finally been set free a year prior to this happening. That unclean spirit was looking to return…

I tell you this to emphasis how dangerous it can be to have others lay hands on you.

‘know them which labour among you,’ the bible says…

  27. We all need to keep in prayer. We need to pray for Todd and his interns, for the people watching, for the people on both sides of this.

Love wants all free and sold out to the Lord Jesus.
God is faithful and these signs and wonders will follow our ministering to others when we pay the personal price of pressing in and spending time with HIM.

Having said that, I went to the revival a few times. All because I wanted to discern what is authentic and if it were of God, I wanted some. Not for me, but for the body of Christ and the lost around me.

I see a mixture…big time. Again, I say that our awesome Lord God is faithful.

The last time I went I prayed that the Lord would not allow anything to be imparted to me that was not purchased by the blood of Jesus or of the same spirit that raised Christ from dead.

funny thing happend. that particular Friday night service, which was supposed to be an “annointing service’, Todd suddenly had to go to California and was not there and they did not do the oil annointing. The next morning, that very precious Roy Fields, the worship leader, was the speaker. He was going to lay hands on everyone. I told the Lord I was concerned, because now Roy has been under the mantle of Fresh Fire and has hands laid on him. hmmmmm….
well, lo and behold just when we were coming to that part of the service he recieved a note and we had to all be out of the stadium within 15 minutes so there was no time left.

I believe that was a direct result of prayer. ( or was it JUST coincidence? NOT)

The other part that disturbs me is the mocking of people who are trying to be discerning. that makes me sad. The word of God tells us to test the spirits, to be discerning and we all need grace for each other.

I think Todd and his interns are so sincere and precious, I do pray that the Lord in His Mercy brings deliverence and clarity to all.

  28. PJMiller, just want to thank God for the gift of wisdom that you’ve been given and share here.

  29. Kathy, i don’t know about wisdom, its more like im getting up there in years and have just about seen it all. aha…

I’ve been in churches which brought in false teachings, and watched what happened afterwards, been witness to true real powerful manifestations of God, and also witnessed the flesh only manifestations called ‘of the Spirit’ as well as watched demonic manifestations be called of God..

I praise God for all the real true miracles, healings, etc which he has allowed me to witness—for by witnessing the real, it has also taught me about the false.

    GOD IS GOOD!!

  30. I am glad that I came across this site. I am in a state of confusion myself over some things mentioned here.
I believe that God does heal and deliver and have experienced myself- lasting healing and deliverance. These experiences I had on my own, one on one with God.
Recently, I went through a “healing and deliverance class”. I wasn’t particularly familiar with it all and had been invited by a friend that I had been reunited with from long ago. I trusted her and everything in our book was very scriptural. I did have people lay hands on me and pray and I did have some manifestations that were not anything I had ever experienced before, especially coming from a Baptist background. I had one particularly disturbing manifestation where I actually bled from my mouth. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it occured off and on from the time I left the church at 9:30pm until 3:00 the next day.
Anyway, I completed the class and am now feeling quite disillusioned and confused.
I’m not even sure what I’m getting at right now. I thought that I had very good discernment, but I’m just not sure anymore. I have also watched some of the revival, but it just didn’t seem right to me. The thing is that whenever I did doubt or question, it seemed like people would call out “the spirit of doubt” and automatically attribute it to something demonic.
There is just so much out there using God’s name and quoting scripture that I can see how it is easy for even believers to get swayed wrong.
I know God knows my heart and I have prayed and will continue to pray that he gives me clarity. I am afraid to even buy a Christian book anymore for fear that the author may be an apostate. Ugh. I pray God is teaching me something right now and that I am open to it.

  31. Oh, I also wanted to add that one of the people who was doing deliverance actually went to Lakeland the weekend before she did deliverance for the those in the class.

  32. Hi Chas…

I’d like to ask you a couple questions…hope thats ok…

Recently, I went through a “healing and deliverance class”. I wasn’t particularly familiar with it all and had been invited by a friend that I had been reunited with from long ago. I trusted her and everything in our book was very scriptural.

This wasn’t by chance Theophostic ministry was it? What made me ask is you mentioned a book…

If it wasn’t what was the book you mentioned–what was the title or author…do you recall?

I did have people lay hands on me and pray and I did have some manifestations that were not anything I had ever experienced before, especially coming from a Baptist background. I had one particularly disturbing manifestation where I actually bled from my mouth. I know it sounds unbelievable, but it occured off and on from the time I left the church at 9:30pm until 3:00 the next day.

    OK…were there any other manifestations?

Anyway, I completed the class and am now feeling quite disillusioned and confused.

Did you just complete this recently, if not, how long after completing this did you start to feel this way?

I thought that I had very good discernment, but I’m just not sure anymore. I have also watched some of the revival, but it just didn’t seem right to me. The thing is that whenever I did doubt or question, it seemed like people would call out “the spirit of doubt” and automatically attribute it to something demonic.

If you sensed something not right, do not doubt yourself …God has given you his Holy Spirit who dwells in your spirit–he is not only your comforter but your teacher Chas…when we get that ‘little nudge’ from him, showing you something isn’t right, listen to him and not to people. I call it a little ‘leap’ or flutter in my spirit…and know its the Holy Spirit warning me.

There is just so much out there using God’s name and quoting scripture that I can see how it is easy for even believers to get swayed wrong.

Don’t listen to fear…If we abide in Him [Jesus] and his word, we have nothing to fear..Those that fall into falsehoods, or deception are those who either go beyond the word of God, or are not satisfied with the word of God, and are always looking for a ‘new revelation’…a ‘new’ thing.

Jesus and his word is our Rock. If we continue to build on that Rock, nothing, NOTHING will move us off of truth. That is what keeps us stable.

If you would prefer, because of the questions i asked, to communicate more privately, i would be glad to do so…you can email me through the contact/prayer tab at the top of the page…if not we’ll carry on here..lol

I would like to know more though, about these deliverance/healing classes. In the past i’ve worked in deliverance, so im curious.

I know God knows my heart and I have prayed and will continue to pray that he gives me clarity…..I pray God is teaching me something right now and that I am open to it.

If you are praying, He will answer you Chas. And it sounds as though he is indeed teaching you something. Just know this: the best learned lessons, are usually the most painful to learn. The good thing is, once we learn them, we never forget what we’ve learned.

    God bless..

  33. Well, the book was called Restoring the Foundations. I think the authors’ last names were Kylstra. As we went through the book, I didn’t personally notice anything that was “bad”. It goes through Sins of the Fathers and Resulting Curses, Ungodly Beliefs, Demonic Oppression and one other subject that has slipped my mind.

I do remember hearing the term Theophostic counseling at some point in the class, but I don’t think this class was. It wasn’t really a one on one thing. I think the counseling was recommended if you needed more beyond this particular class. My teacher referred me to another lady once the class was over and the mini-book she uses is by Neil Anderson and is called “Freedom in Christ”. Maybe this is Theophostic? I don’t know.

As far as the manifestations go, I would get shaky from the inside out. It was almost as if I was cold and it was radiating from my bones out. Then, I would usually start sweating and it would take a while for my temperature to stabilize back to normal. I would also get tense or feel unstable on my feet.

The incident that I mentioned about bleeding- I had gone to the bathroom before class began and I had a thought that said, “I’m going to make you bleed from your mouth”. Needless to say, it disturbed me and I heard the thought a couple of more times throughout class. After class, I went up to talk to the teacher and when I got to the point where I was going to tell her what I had been thinking/hearing, my voice would not allow me to say it. Well, at the moment that my voice was paralyzed I started bleeding and exclaimed, “Oh my God it is happening!” She said what and I opened my mouth and said, “I am bleeding. That is what I was trying to tell you.” and I finally was able to tell her what I had heard. The bleeding wasn’t extreme, but was significant. After I left, the bleeding got so bad that I ended up having to go to the hospital. I will say that I had a tumor removed from my mouth two weeks prior to this incident. However, I had not had any bleeding since the day of the surgery and the area had not been traumatized by anything to start the bleeding. I do KNOW that the bleeding was some kind of attack. I am certain of that. I am just having trouble understanding “why” God allowed me to experience it. At first I thought it was because He wanted me to put on the armor of God and equip myself with His Word before I actually went through the deliverance and He was actually letting me see that there is a real battle against the demonic. Now, I am wondering if I experienced it because I allowed myself to be vulnerable to something in some way. I am a bit confused about it all now.

I just recently completed the class about two weeks ago. I started feeling bad literally the day after the last class. Everyone kept saying, “you are going to feel so free!” and I didn’t feel free at all. I would tell myself that it’s not about “feelings” and that feelings can be deceptive and that maybe I didn’t “feel” free because Satan was trying to intervene. Mostly, I have just felt very irritable since the class. And confused….

God has always been with me through everything and I am always able to look back and see that even if I don’t see it in the midst of the trial. I’m not sure what I am being taught right now or if going through the class was even wrong. For the most part everything seemed okay, but there were just little things here and there that stuck out to me.

Thanks for responding and maybe you will have some insight that will shed some “light” on this.

  34. Hey Chas…

I found their website…here, its ran by Chester and Betsy Kylstra. Their main network is called Healing House.

I do remember hearing the term Theophostic counseling at some point in the class, but I don’t think this class was. My teacher referred me to another lady once the class was over and the mini-book she uses is by Neil Anderson and is called “Freedom in Christ”. Maybe this is Theophostic?

No, Neil Anderson isn’t involved with Ed Smith’s Theophostic ministry style—at least he wasn’t some years ago…

Theophostic counseling is one of the most dangerous things i’ve been involved in–I would not recommend ANYONE to go through this procedure. My pastors, at the time i was working in a deliverance ministry, pushed it on us–wanting us to use this in deliverance sessions.

We did for only a brief time–the results of applying it was horrible. There is a lot of ‘visualization’ of past hurts,…many times these could be things we have no recollection of–because of the emotional pain involved. By forcing a person to ‘see’ these things or events, ..not because God is bringing them to their minds, but because you, the minister is forcing it, can produce trauma which opens doors to demons. I saw it happen. So my advice is, if anyone approaches you about it–is run.

God knows if and when we are able to handle things, even in our past, …and to be healed from them. When He does it, its gentle, loving, and ‘right’…and complete!

Glad to hear you knew it was an attack–that means you know the voice you heard was not of God.

Why do you think God allowed this Chas?

Just throwing an idea out there…
But could it be, that when going through the classes, you were opening doors to the enemy instead of closing them?

Deliverance can be (for a better word) “dangerous” in the hands of those doing it by following directions from a book–other then the bible. Many well meaning Christians get involved in this type of ministry–usually calling it ‘inner healing’ etc…without really understanding how our enemy works, or very little about only following the leading [in these sessions] of the Holy Spirit. In other words, they mistakenly step out ahead of God. The ones who suffer are those they try to help–sad to say.

You’ve mentioned the word confused a few times in your posts–God is not the author of confusion Chas…

Do you believe God heals and delivers? yes, right?

It sounds to me as though you are being tormented in your mind. That is a form of oppression. God does not want you or I to be tormented, nor does He want us to be oppressed by the enemy. We know this…

    my advice is this….

The first thing you need to do is pray–repent of any known sin, even repent for not seeking God’s counsel before going into this experience….

You’ve learned a valuable lesson, thank God for that and for teaching you first hand…

Put on your armor Chas–speak it ‘on’ outloud- one piece at a time. (I use to do this when going out the door to work every morning…you will be surprised at the assurance you will experience by ‘putting it on by faith’…for you are quoting God’s word!)

Also by faith, knowing it IS God’s will, you stand in your authority through Jesus Christ, and tell those things to go, in Jesus name. Speak it outloud..not in your mind–demons cannot read minds but they have to obey the spoken word when said in Jesus name by a child of God.

You may ‘feel’ nothing at first–but believe they are gone.

Now thank God for the name of Jesus–thank Him for allowing you the honor of using that wonderful name–the name which will cause all–spirit and flesh, to bow at his feet one day.

    The word tells us;

“I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven”

I am one of the ‘two’….i stand in agreement with you Chas, that you be set free from any and everything which is coming against your mind or body–i come into agreement with you that they have no right to bring confusion or agitation to your mind–for you have the mind of Christ! And your body belongs to Jesus Christ…you were bought with a price, so they have no rights over your body.

I’ve prayed and given you what God has given me to write–

    God bless…

    For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

  35. Thank you for your kind and well-thought response. I will continue to pray and I am digging into the NT and it has been amazing revelation for me.

God has revealed to me that I do neet to wait upon Him instead of trying to move out ahead of Him. Just like everything else in life, we want things immediately. God has slowly, throughout the years shown me healing and given me deliverance on His time, even when I wasn’t even expecting it. It is certainly a much better experience when it is on His terms!

I also need to make sure that I am not just going after”signs and wonders”. I need to again wait upon the Lord.

I received a call today from the teacher about whether or not I want more one-on-one ministry. I am going to have to really pray about that. I am leaning heavily against it at this point. I am also considering whether to consider the Neil Anderson book I am doing with a very sweet older lady right now. I will go through and read all of it before I make my next appointment and I will certainly pray about it.

    Thank you again!

  37. “PLEASE PEOPLE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE FROM THIS END-TIME DECEPTION!!! IT IS A DANGEROUS THING TO EMBRACE ANOTHER SPIRIT THAT’S NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!”

    — Nah, i’m not going to run. i have the Spirit of God in me. I don’t have to fear end-time deception. I’ll simply stand firm against what is not of God–which he’ll give me wisdom and discernment for…since His Spirit lives in me. So why run for my life if the same God that parts seas, raises the dead, and feeds 5,000 people from one boy’s lunch is living inside of me? 🙂

  38. hi PJ—your readers may want to also check out Andrew Strom’s website where alot is posted on the deception of Todd Bentley as well. I live one hour north of Lakeland Florida and we have been bombarded with the footage of this on our local Christian station. It’s very sad. DO YOU HAVE AN ADDRESS???—-I have written several pages on my experiences with the New Age and further Scripture but it’s alot- and too much to try to email. You are welcome to post whatever I write (but I prefer my name and email address be left out-)-thanks–Let me know about your address–THANKS–jh

  39. Thanks jh

Yes Andrew’s website/board has a lot of informative messages on this event. I’ve been checking it out daily myself.

DO YOU HAVE AN ADDRESS???—-I have written several pages on my experiences with the New Age and further Scripture but it’s alot- and too much to try to email.

Go to the tab at the top of the page which says ‘contact’…you can write me through the contact page and it will come to my home email box. Be sure to include your email address…then i can reply back with my home address. ok?

  40. Shalom PJ,
2 Thessalonians 2:3 seems to be saying that
    1) The apostasy/falling away comes FIRST.
    2) The revealing of the man of lawlessness/sin comes NEXT.
Then Joel 2:28-31 is connecting the outpouring of the Spirit upon all flesh TO signs in the sun, moon, etc. And, of course, there are these references to signs in the sun, moon, etc in the NT, Mt24:29, Mk13:24, Luke21:25 and some more in Revelation.
So, if the Florida event is THE outpouring, then we have to see signs in the sun, moon, etc, in fact, a lot of signs, which we haven’t so far.
So we have either of two situations here.
    1) Either the apostasy has not come, OR
    2) the apostasy HAS already come.

  42. Thankyou for the stuff about healing and the Kylstras. Chester and Betsy Kylstra are coming to my church soon and I have already been advised to leave my church because of its association with John Wimber, the toronto blessing and now the “annointing from Lakeland, Florida. Your comments have strengthened my resolve to submit my resignaton and seek another place of worship. The awkward bit will come telling old friends there, who have been so instrumental in my life that this kind of doctrine is incorrect and deceiving.
